I've not heard about this before...
But it seems ridicilous!! Almost laughable.
Anyone know anything more about this?

With such a big military budget how can you have a lack of bulletproof vests?

    Simple...Cutting Costs!

The money goes towards things such as protecting tankers, equipment, developing high tech weapons and machinery and spent on big contracts. Simple prortection for troops and making sure they have the best and most reliable guns, etc as well as body armour is usually one of the early things to get cut.

We need a fair deal for our forces. The present government has committed our forces to various conflicts whilst freezing (in some areas even decreasing) spending, we're overstretched - I don't normally advocate high government spending, or increases in it but defence spending needs to be markedly upped.

Could be done better by not sending troops into pointless conflicts in the first place.
    But there you go.

We're only overstretched because Blair has taken on too many illegal wars to cope.

It must be hard for him, making the millions off the gullible fools in the army whilst they have to buy their own boots.

Get rid of Trident and we'll suddenly find ourselves with many billions of Pounds available to spend elsewhere.

    Problem solved.

Same in any army, since.. well... always.

What I loved was the excuse - 'this was a problem because we didnt have very long to plan'

Yeah, because we only decided to go to war a few days before it happened.
