A couple of my friends did it when they were in Brazil with a proper Shaman, one loved it, the other puked their guts out and had a nasty time.

Its serious stuff which needs to be given a lot of respect, it is most certainly not something to just 'throw in the mix'.

Oh, and MOAI's have interactions with certain things, so be careful on that front.

theres seems to be a few different 'mixes' you can do.. i dont suppose you know which MOAI is best?

it seems MHRB (Mimosa hostilis root bark) is the best source of DMT

and ive read about a few bad reactions.. what causes the bad reaction the MOAI or whatever contains the DMT?

after reading a fair few reports i think its safe to say it sounds like a good (strong!!) trip!

The bad reactions are for a couple of reasons, one, its supposed to cause you a bit of nausea, which in some people can be quite bad. And also MOAI's can be a bit hard on the body.

Its a strong trip, that doesnt mean its good or bad, just strong.

Erowid is going to be the best place for information about it.

I've tried DMT, but not in a brew. I couldn't, to tell you the truth, begin to decribe it. But as Bongbuddah said, strong isn't always good. Look at Salvia Divinorum, a personal favorite, but most people are dissapointed with it.

I really wouldnt recommend that, most people I know who have tried it have hated it.

I hated DMT and Salvia. :yuck:

Neither are enjoyable in my opinion. My mates from college made DMT from some grass they got over the net. Spent months trying to get it right and nobody liked it. Waste of time. It felt like somedy twatted me in the head with hammer.

And I did Salvia at Homelands. Not my cup of tea at all.

I'll stick with me shrooms and acid thank you.

As I get older I think my eagerness to experience other drugs lessens.

Nowadays I don't smoke puff, do coke, speed.

The only things I do now with any regularity are pills. I'd still love to try GHB though. I've never come across which I think is strange.

I wasn't recommending it bong, I was given an example for how strong isn't always good - Although I think it's very interesting and different

OK, I can see what you meant, I was just saying that I really really wouldnt recommend it personally, it being legal and 'natural' doesnt make it good.

    hahahaha, i love that theory.
Guy 1 - "hey man, it's all natural, it's great for you"
Guy 2 - "I don't know though, the name of the plant is poison ivy.. I dont think we should be using this for skincream"

Strange you should mention the stuff because a friend of mine in edinburgh has recently come across it and acquired it.

Noones taken it yet though because apparently it puts you in la la land for days so waiting for right time.

Am I right in thinking it's the same thing the guy took in that BBC show Tribe?

Its always been a very minor drug really, it just gets a lot of attention because of the coverage it got in the US. There is actually very little evidence for its label as a 'date rape' drug but when has that got in the way of the media?

    Ayahuasca

Not sure what were even talking about anymore or that GHB and Aya should be included in the same forum. I've done Aya 5 times with groups ranging from 12 to 20 people always out in woods with a Shaman to guide us. Pretty interesting stuff. Its not to be considered another notch on your list of narcotics to try. Its really a medicine with different lessons for all who use her. Its very spritual and not recreational at all, although we had a lot of fun with the last one. Also, there is something to say about the difference in vomitting and purging. Of course I prefer purging out of my ass more than my ass. Anyway, if you have any questions your welcome to ask ans I'll answer if I can. Basically speaking Aya means "Vine of the Dead" b/c its a gateway into the spirit realm.

This is not neccessarily true. Usually you would not drink alcohol for days before doing Aya. Many believe it with draws toxins from your body and usually leaves you feeling pretty normal physically or for me refreshed, since my normal week usually involves at least a little binge drinking. I usually eat vegetarian food even vegan closer to ceremony and don't drink at all. Hell, I even try not to masturbate for a few days before. Mentally however, I guess I can understand being a little dazed. But a better description would be that you have had a lot happen in a short amount of time at possibly a very fast pace. So plain and simple, you have a lot of information to process. As the Shaman I know says. The real work is in the weeks following as you process and put your lessons to work. I once had a friend describe Aya in this way that made a little sense: Aya is like taking 10 years of phsyco therapy and condensing it into 3-4 hours.

Funny you say that about drinking because when my mate took it there last week he drank a bottle of vodka after eating it, he was messed up but in a more drunken kind of way, he could feel it but i think the drink took over to some extent.

    Aya

I've never know anyone to drink before, during, or right after aya. It kind of defeates the purpose. Your suppose to be clear headed in order to recieve the lessons. But its also funny how different it effects every individual each time. It took me several times to feel more than a slight trippy sensation. That was usually during the purging and just from being around others who were hit hard. One guy literally had what seemed like an excorsism occuring. He screamed for hours as he worked through deep rooted problems in his subconscious. Someone actually audio taped it and used in some GOA trance samples. here is how I was told to prepare although every Shaman and region has there on traditions.

To assist in the detoxification, it is suggested (optional) by Linda =
that you eat fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, whole grains and lots of =
distilled water only.... one week before the gathering.=20

    Food precautions=20
Foods which should be avoided for at least twenty-four hours before and =
after taking Ayahuasca include fermented beverages (i.e. wine, beer), =
cream, yeast extract, liver, soy sauce, raisins, figs, yogurt, =
sauerkraut, aged cheeses, and pickled fish.=20

We recommend you not consume overripe avocado, cocoa or coffee for eight =
hours before and after the ceremonies. It is best to consume no solid =
food within four hours preceding ceremonies. However, it is =
inadvisable to completely fast on the day of ceremony. Some light food =
other than meat eaten more than four hours before the ceremony will =
    enhance a good healthy purge.=20

    =20

    Pharmaceutical precautions

These drugs and medications are known to cause dangerous side effects =
when taken in conjunction with Ayahuasca. Use of these substances should =
be discontinued and sufficient clearance time should be allowed before =
consumption of Ayahuasca. If in doubt, consult your physician.=20

    I. Any medicine containing MAO inhibitors (neural enzyme monoamine =
oxidase) or SSRI's, i.e. antidepressants such as Prozac, Effexor, =
Zoloft, Wellbutrin, etc. These can cause a 'serotonin syndrome' =
involving elevated blood pressure, coma and possibly death when taken in =
combination with Ayahuasca. It is recommended that such medications be =
suspended under a physician's guidance at least six weeks prior to =
taking Ayahuasca. Some medications may clear the system sufficiently in =
less time. Consult your physician to be sure. St. John's wort should =
also be suspended in advance of work with Ayahuasca. Many patients have =
found it unnecessary to resume such medications after treatment with =
Ayahuasca (see "Ayahuasca and Serotonin Normalization; the UDV Study").=20

II. Sedatives, tranquilizers, antihistamines, narcotics, amphetamines, =
asarone/calamus, tryptophan (high doses), tyrosine (high doses), =
phenelanine (high doses), macromerine, decongestants, allergy =
medications, cold medications, diet pills, methylphemidate, =
asthma-inhalers, meperidine, levopoda, dopamine, carbamazipine, some =
antihypertensive medications, sympathomimetic amines (acting directly =
and/or indirectly), including pseudoephedrine and ephedrine.=20

III. Do not drink alcohol and/or use drugs such as MMDA, cocaine, =
heroin, XTC, 2CB, mescaline and/or other phenethylamines on the day of =
    the ceremony.=20

If you use any of these substances, or take any prescribed drugs, please =
let us know at the time of your application. All information is held in =
    strict confidentiality.=20

Those with a record of psychiatric instability, psychosis, diagnosed =
mental disorder or chronic high blood pressure should not partake of =
    Ayahuasca.=20

    Madre Ayahuasca=20

Ayahuasca presents at least three potentially beneficial therapeutic =
and personal growth applications. It is important to consider that most =
of what is known about Ayahuasca is drawn from anecdotal and empirical =
knowledge accumulated over millennia in the Amazon region of South =
America. Over the past twenty years, the socio-anthropological and =
popular contemporary literature has increasingly addressed the many =
dimensions of Ayahuasca use, culture, and spirituality.
It is interesting to note that Ayahuasca is among many "folk" =
medicines with a history of centuries of human use without apparent =
negative consequences so long as specific dietary and other preparatory =
guidelines are followed. Such a lengthy trial period with human subjects =
substantially exceeds the standards of contemporary drug approval =
studies conducted by the FDA and other regulatory agencies. In most =
Amazonian cultures even today, the majority see Ayahuasca as a =
beneficial holistic medicine when applied by those knowledgeable in its =
use and effects. Sadly, only limited scientific research has been =
conducted to date due to the western cultural stigma attached to =
    substances producing visionary experiences.=20
It is often erroneously assumed that such experiences are undertaken =
primary for recreational or frivilous purposes and therefore lack =
redeeming value. As anyone who has taken Ayahuasca can attest, it is far =
from a recreational experience. The normal course is one of personal =
challenge and struggle punctuated by flashes of agony and ecstacy as one =
works through the process of purgation and renewal. Physical discomfort =
is common and one often is besieged by inescapable images and thoughts =
of matters and issues one would prefer to avoid. This forced =
confrontation brings catharsis, and eventually closure to many of the =
psychological burdens most of us carry with us in our lives. The =
character and rigors of the Ayahuasca experience are simply not amenable =
to the kind of abuse that has occurred with other so-called =
    "psychedelic" substances.=20

Ayahuasca clearly occupies exalted status alongside such =
culturally-renowned plant healer-teachers as Peyote, San Pedro =
(Huachuma), Teonanacatl, and Iboga. Like these plants, when taken in =
traditional natural plant form, Ayahuasca imposes its own effective =
autonomic discipline upon those who approach her with disrespect or =
    undue arrogance.=20

Those familiar with Ayahuasca know that the lasting benefits begin to =
unfold after the immediate and most profound effects of the drink have =
passed. For days, weeks and months afterward, the blessings of Ayahuasca =
will be received, one step at a time, if one is receptive and attentive =
to the life lessons revealed. These blessings manifest in many ways, =
specific to the varied human needs presented to the medicine.=20

Among the positive processes initiated by the Ayahuasca cleansing =
    experience are:=20
Catharsis.Catharsis is precipitated on the physical level as a =
vehicle for cleansing and detoxification. Spiritual catharsis occurs at =
a deeper level as Ayahuasca purges negativity, toxins, personal =
"baggage" and "garbage" accumulated through one's lifetime. The pace =
and depth of this process depends greatly on the willingness of the =
individual to surrender ego and pride to achieve the blessings of =
    cleansing and rebirth.=20
Abreaction.Abreaction is a process of regression back to the =
situation or source of a problem or trauma. This process allows one to =
relive the experience to gain new understanding and insights enabling =
resolution or closure. The frequent result is a liberation from guilt or =
fear or whatever psycho-spiritual forces might have bound the individual =
previously. The process often results in candid re-evaluation of one's =
life course with strong tendency and resolution to pursue positive =
changes to improve one's life with renewed purpose and mission.=20

Spiritual Realization. Most people who experience Ayahuasca in a =
positive and nurturing environment report some sort of spiritual =
experience. While these experiences certainly have a personalized aspect =
based on the individual's past experiences and attitude toward religion =
and spirituality, there is also a remarkably consistent nature and =
character to the Ayahuasca experience when undertaken in proper set and =
setting. The character of the experience, and especially the visionary =
icons encountered, are greatly influenced by the cultural context in =
which the experience occurs, and equally so by the specific plants used, =
    regardless of their chemical composition.=20

The quintessential Ayahuasca experience probably cannot be fully =
realized outside the natural and cultural environment of Amazonia. The =
reason is simple...all the inherently natural organic and cultural links =
are present. Here the spiritual connection between the plants and the =
eco-cultural union which brought the unique brew into existence is =
strongest and most profound. That the Amazonian plants are endowed with =
a special magico-spiritual dimension in their natural habitat is evident =
to those who have experienced both in situ (in the natural habitat) and =
ex situ (outside the natural habitat) types of Ayahuasca experiences. =
This is not to say, of course, that highly beneficial personal results =
cannot be achieved using Ayahuasca in other circumstances.=20

Holistic Healing. Ayahuasca has the noted capability to =
accomplish often seemingly-miraculous healing of Mind, Body, and Spirit. =
Not every person comes to this medicine with the same needs. The magic =
of Ayahuasca rests in its ability to find, focus, diagnose and heal the =
causes of one's personal problems or illness as well as the symptoms. =
The cleansing and healing is deep, to the core, and is therefore likely =
to have a lasting positive effect on the patient.=20

I guess I stopped short of presenting my theory as to why I didn't feel Aya the first few times I did it. It was obvious other were feeling it and I had follwed many if not all of the recommended preperations. I also had a second cup which was more than almost anyone else. I tried to focus my energy toward just appreciating the environment, the people, the experience of ceremony and the Shaman's songs, the purge(yes there is something very powerful in the purge), etc. and not on "man, I don't feel anything." Finally, the fourth time and did it, I felt much more. They say the spirit of the plant decides when and what kind of lesson to give you. I just wasn't ready at first. Although the fourth time I felt something, I threw up and the rest was followed by deep gas pains and the nasty shits I ever had. I can't say it was lots of fun. I was told the next day that the Aya was working deep in my system to clear out a build up of toxins. People are know to purge out of there ass, but vomitting is much more common. The final night I did it was truely an experience, but too long of a story for now. I plan to go see my friend in Jan down in Iquitos and Cusco Peru. Usually, he's always come to North Carolina.
