Stewarding at Festivals

I can't really afford to go to any festivals this summer so was thinking of doing the Oxfam steward volunteering to get in for free.

Does anyone know how much work you're expected to do/what it's like?
Unfortunately Reading and Leeds are full but I quite wanna go to the big chill first week in august so was thinking of helping out. I've looked at the website and stuff but just thought I'd ask you people...

So...has anyone got any experience of doing this?

I've only done Glastonbury, and the times I've done the whole festival I've always worked for friends there so I've had a free ticket upfront.

I know some of the larger volunteer people like Oxfam etc require you to put a deposit down with them to the same value as your ticket, so if you turn up at the festival, get your free pass and then disappear and don't do the shifts them you never see your money back.

If you belong to a trade union and can get a team of other members together you can go and work for the Workers Beer Company who do the beer tents at various events and festivals
