Yep. They'll need your license to put the points on. (£60 and 3 points for speeding normally)

Not all forces oblige without going to court.

Ask if it's based on facts. Yes/No

Then ask for them if they say yes.

They should do nowadays, because they should give you chance to contest it.

Yeah, you can contest it at court but then there's the risk of a bigger fine and legal costs etc. So you'd only get a photo off some of them if you decline to accept the fixed penalty points and fine for the offence.

What happens when your not sure who was driving? Surely they don't let it go to court before letting you know whether or not you were driving?

I've been cuaght speeding in different counties and have always recieved my photo when I've asked.

Of course, because you are refusing to accept responsibility. Koe isn't denying the offence though.

Not all of them do, that's all I'm saying. And you ought to be more careful, mate. ;)

Well there lies the answer. Don't admit until you have proof. Thats not a crime.

Tell them you'd like to plead guilty but you just have a few questions.......

Police forces have a legal obligation to provide their evidence before you accept your guilt.

Bear in mind, though, that the law has been recently changed to make the registered keeper liable for not telling the police who was driving, unless it was not reasonable for them to know.

Depending on how much you earn and how important the car is, I'd seriously looking into getting some specialist legal advice. They do cost a lot of money, but if they get you off, the police have to pay for it. And they're quite good at spotting the little things the police don't do properly to make conviction impossible.

    What's a "registered keeper"?

    What is a "county"?

Where is the evidence for these things?

Speeding laws are a joke and severely outdated.

Just for the record I only ever got caught speeding once and I chucked all the letters away, even after 6 months I was getting all the usual crap about warrants for my arrest blah blah and they threatened with a summons but I never got one :D :thumb:

    worth a shot imo

And had the original question been "how can I avoid getting speeding fines?" you would have had a good point.

And no for the record. 7 years on the road and no points at all.. As for original question - yes they will require your license...and most probably insurance details...

But do you have an 8 mile tailback behind you every time you go for a drive?
