I reckon you'd be insane to get into an argument with travellers.

Dunno bout that, but I reckon anyone using the terms "gypo" and calling travellers "scum" ought to get strung up.

It offends some people, and its another one of the 'political correctness' things.

Someone who lets their dog attack people probably counts as "scum" too.

Is it possible to sue someone who doesn't have a registered address?

Agreed. But pick on that, not the fact they are a traveller.

what has "political correctness" got to do with it? What does "political correctness" even mean? How is it relevant?

You can only sue if a) you can get their name and b) they have any money.

Good luck finding a traveller with money.

Blagsta, some communities deserve the abuse they get. The travelling community is one such community. Until they learn some manners and clean up after themselves (latest cost to Gateshead Council: £50,000) they deserve no respect at all.

Sure, its not all of them, but compare the number of travellers who live decently on land they're allowed to be on to the number who trawl in, leave syringes and filth all over any public space they can find, and then let decent taxpaying people foot the bill.

if someone is a traveller then they're a gypsy right... which abbreviates to gypo. i still don't see the problem.

If someone is from Pakistan, they are Pakistani. Is P.aki an accetable abbreviation?

    That was Blag's point.

Same as Pakistani -> P*ki...which used to be perfectly acceptable, until it started being used in a derogatory manner.

I think the term P.aki is used to describe any West Asian person these days, so is viewed as a derogatory term. Gypo is an abbreviation of Gypsy so is ok in my book.

I do not have a problem with the word 'gypsy' being used but 'gypo' is derogatory.

According to my grandma, part of my family is actually descended from gypos. Therefore I'm allowed to call 'em that. So :p

100% of the travellers who have set up camp in my village and in Daventry have been shitty. And that's quite a nice way of putting it.

    Fuck off ya gypo ;)

In my experience, travellers are a hard breed, get on the wrong side of them and they'll give ya a right beating. Get on the right side and they're charming people.

Well it might be ok in your book, but that doesn't make it any less racist.

Romany people are an ethnic group, and to give them slang offensive names like gypo is clearly racist and derogatory. Plenty of ignorant people don't understand why the word p.aki is offensive as it's just an abbreviation of Pakistani...but they're wrong.

The word Pakistan was created in 1947, but the word P.aki only became offensive during the 1960s when used by British tabloids to refer to immigrants in a derogotary and racist manner.
