Funny taste.

Last night I had a bit of an accident with my bike. The bike is fine btw lol. Basically I ended headbutting the bonnet of a car. Wasnt my fault.

Anyway, I bled from my nose quite a bit and got blood all down my chin and splattered on my visor. Got some cool pics on my phone. Was just a nose bleed. I hurt a few ribs too, just bruises.

Since then I have a constant bloody taste in my mouth, like stale dry blood. It's not that pleasant, I don't think I'm still bleeding, my spit isnt really red or anything. This is the nasty bit though, I had really really dark shits. Brown with very dark patches. They felt different too, more *sticky*. Is it possible that somewhere along the line I am still bleeding a bit? I'm not liking this taste either. I went to hospital to see if the ribs were ok, I didn't tell them about the blood though.

Do you think it'll pass? What should I do?

If you had an accident on your bike, and things don't feel right, go to the doctor asap, or the emergency room.

You might have broken some ribs, or it may have been nothing. Either way, go and get it checked out.

I did a quick google, and the first result mentions blood in your stool (poop) as a symptom of internal bleeding. **You know, the kind of bleeding that can kill you.**

    I agree mate.

Go to the doctors or hospital asap, could be internal damage that you can't feel.

Or it could be nothing but I wouldn't risk it. Watch out for the sexy nurses mind! :p

I had a spill on the bike the other day and everything checked out just to make sure, and the doc kindly gave me some free painkillers for any side effects :). Glad to hear the bike is ok :)

I agree with getting it checked out.

The taste could just be from where the blood is clotted at the back of your nose and the other problem could be from where you swallowed blood while your nose was bleeding.

It's better to be safe than sorry though so... Go. Doctors.

Hope it's nothing serious and glad you're bike wasn't hurt :thumb:

Get help. Could be internal bleeding, ASAP most imporant you ace now.

Don't want it to get worse. You could have just swallowed a load, but dont take the risk mate - not worth it.

The black poo is called melaena, and is blood that has passed through the bowel. You probably swallowed quite a bit.

If you didn't hurt your tummy then it's unlikely that you are still bleeding into the bowel, but if you carry on passing black stools, you need to see your GP urgently. The nasal cavity is deceptively large and as the clots in your nose break down, it's likely that you'll be tasting old blood rather than a fresh bleed.

If you feel dizzy, light headed or have a bad headache, seek medical advice urgently.
See a doctor quickly if any of the following occur after a head
    injury.
    · Increasing drowsiness (but see below).
    · Worsening headache (but see below).
    · Confusion or strange behaviour.
    · Two or more bouts of vomiting.
    · Loss of use of part of the body. For example, weakness in an
    arm or leg.
    · Dizziness, loss of balance or convulsions.
    · Any visual problems such as blurring of vision or double vision.
    · Blood, or clear fluid, leaking from the nose or ear.
    · Unusual Breathing Patterns

Thanks for all your help. I went to the hospital today. They said I should have gone straight after the crash. I got an ultrasound and they said I had been bleeding under my ribs. I had probably swallowed lots too. Anyway, the outcome was that I was ok, they said it should clear up by itself. I got priority in A&E too. Felt quite special. I had to wait a while for a specialist to show up though.

Since I found out I had been bleeding, I feel really uncomfortable about it. My chest hurts all shooty. It's weird how when you know something was up it starts hurting again.
