I'd fully support banning all drugs.

    If it could ever work.

    Which it can't.

That being the case, why bother?

Interesting thing....it's easier to get drugs in prison than most places.

You must be bloody joking! Rest assured I will not be coming out of university as a born-again socialist. I'm right-wing through and through.

Looking at what I write on the boards, I can hardly define myself as "left-wing", can I?

You might not believe this, but when at school, I was a communist. Thankfully, I've since seen the light - i.e., communism doesn't work. As the last five years or so have gone by, I've moved to the centre, then to the right of the political spectrum. It's a mixture of things - disillusionment with the government, disillusionment with the establishment, to name but two.

those figures aren't that bad, quite alot of people in my year at school have been smoking since year 7 (age 11) and probably about 1/2 or more smoke now.
They're not too reliable though, cause you don't know how many told the truth.

Has anyone ever suggested class C drugs were good and totally safe?

You're disullusioned with the right-wing establishment and the right-wing government by being right-wing?

I'm sure that makes sense to somebody.

Nobody has said drugs are great (well, nobody worth listening to). But many posters on here take drugs, do you think people on here should be in prison for the odd use of recreational class As.

I actually think you will change your opinion on things when you see more of the world. Working with heroin addicts has shown me things, that's for certain.

    What right-wing government is this?

    (1) Kermit, don't be provocative. Skive asked me about arresting people who use drugs on another thread, and my answer is the same again - it wouldn't be appropriate to answer that.
    (2) My views almost certainly will change. My original views about almost everything else have done.

You're not going to make yourself look thick by claiming Blair is a leftie are you?

    I so hope not.

    It would be appropriate.

You think drug users should be jailed? It's not so easy to say it when you find that drug users are intelligent people too, is it?

    Blair's no leftie. He's just a conviction-free, principle-free zone.

I'm not going to make any debate about that personal by naming people. That way just lies endless arguments and fighting.

what you realy mean is you lack courage.
your willing to shout from the rooftops about building more prisons ...heavily enforcing the drug laws and locking up lots of people ...why can't you name names?
if you name names ...they won't come looking for you ...it will step up the debate ...put it on more of an inteligent and truthful footing ...you have a problem with that?

But if your argument is that "drug users should be locked up", it IS personal.

If you think drug users should be jailed, you think Skive, Aladdin and MR should be jailed. That is what you're saying.

It's not so easy to say that because it's easier to believe in the drug-abuser bogeyman, and not see the person behind it.

come on SG ...i've seen you keep coming back to this thread but not replying.
courage ...convictions ...all that old fashioned stuff?

drugs are and have always been ...part of every society on earth for all time. why now should i be locked up for what realy has in all the pasts been acceptable?
my ancesters will be turning in their graves at todays situation.

two deaths from xtc from one and a half million doses was qouted before ...how about four thousand deaths a year in the uk from anti inflamatory drugs?
    thats acceptable?

I suppose that's the one disadvantage of appearing in the online list, everybody knows where I am. If you must know, the reason I keep coming back and thinking is partly because I'm not so sure of my views anymore on this and partly because of a convo I'm having on PM on an unrelated matter.

Is the current law restricting availability of drugs to those under age?

    Is it reducing demand?

Is it helping to reduce the harm caused by drugs?

No, a clear no to all those questions.

We should legalise drugs not because they are safe but because they are dangerous, far too dangerous to give to criminals to supply.

Maybe there's something in that. Maybe the laws I supported so far are contributing more to the problems than dealing with them. My one concern though is that, if these drugs are legalised, does it mean the numbers using them will rocket?

In fairness, there's a lot of money to be made writing for tabloids. The Sun and the Daily Mail pay their writers very well, for instance. I wonder whether writers at papers like The Guardian and The Times, which don't sell so many copies, get paid as much.

Yep. Increasingly typical Skive response. Do nothing to address what has previously been said and go for a cheap jibe instead. OK, I'm far from being the most worldly of people. But because I'm not as open-minded, to put it mildly, about drugs is no reason to make repeated digs at me.

Let's try again - if these drugs become legit, will the numbers using them go up or down?
