    Oh Welcome to the boards. I'm guessing you posted because you either like someone and haven't asked them out. or you did and got turned down. If its the second one sorry to hear that, but if the first go for it, you never know they might say yes

    you marry
    you have kids
    kids leave home
    kids have their own kids
    you die (of old age or something)

    yeah, does seem pretty pointless... Oh well, we had fun together while we were both alive. :)

    I think you ask someone out to have a relationship with them.

    I've never asked anyone out (I've always waited to be asked) although I've come on to guys if I just wanted something physical.
