Time for you all to watch a decent film.

Downfall is about the last few days of Hitler's life. It cuts out all of the jew-bashing and delivers what went on within the Nazi organisation as the Russians began their siege on Berlin. A reconstruction of it from Hitler's secretary's diary(?) - It's the stuff that they don't teach you in school.

If you were to drop on this planet with no knowledge of Hitler and immediately watched this film, there's a good chance you'd feel sorry for him.

Plus the actor looks alot like Hitler which is cool.

Anyone seen it?

    It was quality.

Loved the bit where the Goebells poison the children.

A future without national socialism is no future at all.

I watched it about a month ago and found it really interesting, compelling and actually very rational look at the events and people involved. I think the secretary who provided the information actually made (or helped make) a previous documentary about Hitler's last days. I could be wrong, though.

It was pretty daring anyway, but Bruno Ganz is a terrific actor and I thought he was an excellent Hitler - is it possible for that to be a compliment? :chin:

Yeah I watched it on More 4 the other month. Had wanted to see it when it was out at cinema but nobody would go with me (they all thought it looked boring  ). Was a good film. I remember when it first came out lots of people critiscised it for being a bit sympathetic to Hitler.

I saw it at the student cinema last term, it was a really good film. It moved me more than Schindler's List, but I'm half way through watching that again at the moment, to give it a fair chance.

I cried when the Goebbels poisoned their children, it was so sad. I was also amazed that his wife did it because she didn't want them to grow up in a world that wasn't led by Nazis.

Traudl Yunge (Hitler's secretary) wrote a book upon which the film was based.

Interesting fact: This is the first time Hitler has been portrayed by a German actor.
