So, anyone getting one? 400 quid seems like a lot for a gaming machine to me.

I want one but probably will wait for the price to drop a bit.

What about u, brokenbeat? U getting one now or later?
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I'm gonna wait.
My PS1 takes up enough hours of my day, so I probably don't really need another machine right now! Maybe the price will come down next year sometime or at least when the Microsoft one comes out.

What is wrong with the original playstation. I haven't got bored of mine yet.
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
What's wrong with it is that it aint as powerful?

its called moving on with technology. If we didn't conform to it we would still all be playing sonic the hedgehog on the sega master system

I understand what you are sayin about technology but it seems to me like everyone is always in a rush to create something bigger and better, I just think that sometimes it is unfair on familys who havent got so much money to fork out on buying expensive computers. My brother is in a childrens home and he is one of the people that can only play on one of the old nintendos because he cant afford anything else.

I know what you mean Spirit, we bought our son a playstation for his 6th birthday bacause all of his friends had them & he just "had" to have one. At the time I didn't want him to be the odd one out, he has a hard enough time anyway. We really struggled to afford it too.

But now, he tends to play with his meccano & lego, and frequently asks why we got rid of his BBC!

Peer pressure is a horrible thing, but unfortunately, these days, it all seems to centre on what level of technology you are at, forcing parents to struggle, or children to suffer ridicule from their peers.

Being a techy I really support the idea of technology improving and nobody should try to slow down technical progress.

The government is to blame for the high prices we pay for everything as consumers in the UK.

They can control prices to make them fair but they make more tax when more money goes through the system so they r happy as it is.

We r supposed to be the biggest consumers in the world but I think what they really mean is that we spend more as consumers than any other country because stuff is just too god damn expensive.

Most families get into debt at Christmas, that just shows how these companies and the media exploit us too. And I agree that its not fair on families that cannot afford the flash toys they throw in their kids faces. It sucks.

But as parents we have to be strong and try not to conform to the rat race. If we give in, we are just as bad, and making other people feel the need to conform.

Honestly, I would never buy state of the art stuff as soon as it comes on the market. Its a bloody big fat rip off.

We should raise our kids to know that we love them and that they should be grateful for whatever we can afford to give them materially.

Kids that are rasied this way will appreciate things more. I never had the expensive stuff other kids had at Christmas but I was so happy with what I did get because my mum put lots of love and thought into it. We were also constantly reminded that some kids in the world don't even get anything to eat, nevermind cool toys.

Some kids try to bully other kids because they aint got cool toys but it is the character of the bullied child that will determine whether or not the bullying stops.

As parents we should concentrate on raising our kids to feel secure so that if anyone tries to bully them they know how to deal with it.

Giving in to the bullies and trying to make them accept your child because they have the up-to-date toys is definitely not the way.

That's not what I meant at all Gwai, you know the problems that Ian has, I'm suprised at your wording here.

My brother has a playstation 2, he saved up for a year to get it and he loves playing on it. He got some games and a DVD with the console, buy it's still bloody expensive.

The graphics on it are really good, but I wouldn't fork out £400 for something I hardly have time to play on.

Besides, the old playstation still has some good games on it, I just can't be arsed buying a more powerful machine when it'll only have enhanced graphics & DVD.

Aah well, I'm happy enough with a gameboy.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get round to this, with all the posting that's going on it takes me ages to keep up. lol

Anyway, maybe I took it a bit too personally, I'm having such trouble with Ian at the moment, I think I have a persecution complex lol.

I can't agree with progress for progress sake. The PS2 is a very nice piece of kit (in some ways - quite amazingly poor in others) but I couldn't recommend that anyone buy it yet. Wait 6 months (or more) for the games that make it worth while, then buy it for 200 quid.

yeah right. Most console makers loose money on the console - they make thier money on the licensing for the games. The pitch the price to cut out the people who can't afford to buy lots of games.

barfarama. But well intentioned.
Lots of "it's the thought that counts", "money can't buy love".

If that doesn't work, try "ii you loved me, you'd get me a dishwasher"

I actually heard that they have only made a limited amount of these playstations purposely because they know that theyll be able to get away with putting the price to something ridiculously high. It would take a whole month of my wages to buy one of them, its pathetic if you ask me!

Yeah I heard that too Spirit. They're just trying to make people rush and buy them and create a huge hype. I don't think I'll be buying one because a) I havent got that much money! b) I used to have a normal playstation and I never played on it so I sold it !

Get a Dreamcast instead. The Xbox and Gamecube wont be here until the spring after next, and the PS2 is the biggest pile of cack known to man.
The games, [apart from one or two - SSX and Fantavision] are awful, the DVD playback quality will only work with a Sony suppiled SCART socket not the normal RGB SCART adapters [Otherwise you get a green tinge on your movies] and the way Sony has treated its European customers is unfathomable - [75,000 units for an entire country? The US had 500,000 available]
Only *18* copies of the game 'Midnight Club' were sold in the UK- it is that awful.

If you want a console for Christmas, then get your arse down to Toys R Us and buy the Dreamcast, 2 games and a superb DVD player bundle for just £270.

Whats more, Shenmue's just been released for the DC today - its worth the price of the console alone....

Dont u all remember when the most computers come out the games were crap. wicked games are gonna come out next year. they have not had enough time to see how far they can push game playing limits. Silent scope is CLASS.
