Anyone else here think Kerrang is crap?

Kerrang has really been pissing me off lately. The main reason for this is because more or less every new band around at the mo is branded as "Nu metal" by them and unfortunately this tag can stick.

Recently they interviewed Nickelback frontman Chad Kroger, and during the interview they ask him whats it like to be the most boring person in rock or something along those lines. Now this personally would piss me off too, and Kerrang act surprised by Chad's reaction and have continuously printed insults about him since.

They influence a lot of younger kids and its scary to think that just by ignoring this magazine, it can seriously affect your music career.

My penultimate point is that they don't seem to like Reel Big Fish for some reason. I was at the Brixton leg of the Sum41 tour where RBF was supporting and personally I think they were great. They didn't really have time for the banter in between songs as usual but the fans went nuts for them, chanting "REEL BIG FISH" long before they made it onstage.
I was looking forward to the next issue of Kerrang to see how they rated it and was shocked to see that they gave it a measly 3 Ks.
As painfully wacky as their name suggests, 7 piece ska punksters RBF peddle their frothy cabaret kerfuffle to death. The set is redeemed only by a stomping version of A-Ha's 'Take on Me' which should have reached a natural conclusion in frontman Aaron Barrett shattering Morten Harket's chiseled cheekbones with his stratocaster & using his remaining shards as toothpicks. Alas it wasn't to be

Wankers!! <IMG SRC="mad.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">
They also 'forgot' to review their headlining show at Camden which I also attended and thought it was even better than the Sum41 gig. Here it was their show and they had the time to do whatever the hell they wanted to on stage and made it a great night.

Oh and a final reason why I dislike Kerrang is that they missed out my face by 3 feet in a photo at a Midtown gig. Curses! Incidently I didn't rate this gig much and they gave it 4 Ks <IMG SRC="rolleyes.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">

Kerrang, sort it out.

Wandering through the newsagents a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that The Hives were on the front cover of Kerrang. This could be totally inaccurate on my part/a one off occurance partly because I don't read Kerrang, but aren't The Hives anything but "nu-metal"?

    I'm more of an NME gal myself <IMG SRC="biggrin.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">

    I hate Kerrang too.
Most of the new stuff around at the mo is (unfortunately) nu metal. Also unfortunatly the pop-shite (well it is designed by the same people that invented the boy band. Crazy town *are* N suck) that is nu metal is popular at the moment. <IMG SRC="frown.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">
Nickleback are EXTREMELY boring! Alot of bands are very boring i.e. xtians, go on about how they are straight edge and teetotal (in a very similar way to my eighty-? year old granny does!) etc. Or else just redo stuff older bands have done. Rock and metal should be about the sex and drugs as well as the music. <IMG SRC="biggrin.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">
I normally buy Terrorizer but it incresingly has articles with pop bands like Slipknot. <IMG SRC="mad.gif" border="0" ALT="icon"> Quite odd for a *extreme* music magasine. <IMG SRC="confused.gif" border="0" ALT="icon"> I also read Organ (www.organart.com) which has reviews of lesser known and unsigned bands + if they think a band is shit they'll say so even if the band is popular.
Reviews are just someones opinion so don't get mad if they don't like a cd or concert. Magasines don't have enough space to review every gig by every band. I have never seen reviews of gigs or even cds by some of the bands I like.
Why have magasines print so much about the Hives? Maybe its cos they have an image as their music isn't that much different from most of the other scandinavian rock n roll bands? Don't get me wrong I think the Hives are ok but I think there are a lot of better rock n roll bands out there.

Whoa! <IMG SRC="eek.gif" border="0" ALT="icon"> Rell Big Fish were supporting Sum 41??? Those canadian kiddy rockers can't even compare with the skapunk wonders who have been around since Sum41 were in nappies.

Anyway, I don't read Kerrang! anymore, can't be arsed. The channel has good days and bad days. They've played a few good videos, Marylin Manson, Greenday, Sisters Of Mercy and some classics, but they also play all these 'new' commercial bands, which I cannot name because they all sound so similar.

I mean, I can go to a rock club and now, all they play is 'nu metal' which basically all sounds the same. 6 months ago there was a good balance. What a blag. <IMG SRC="mad.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">

I can't stand Kerrang anymore. I read it for a while before it 'took off' but then I think it got a bit pretentious. A waste of money really.

I have given up on trying to understand the minds behind Kerrap! I mean Kerrang! They constantly persue to slag off bands like Adema, Nickelback, Mushroomhead and Creed.

They slag off Mushroomhead because the mag is so far up slipknots arse its untrue. I mean 2 k's for their album is scandelous! 'xx' is just as good as Iowa...if not better in some places.

Adema are an amazing band. Kerrang constantly come out with the formula: "Throw everything into the nu metal generator and you come out with 'giving in' which pretty much sums up Nu Metal today". Or something along those lines. Since when has there been rules about what music should or should not sound like?

Nickelback....do I really need to defend these? They've done it themselves by being in the top 10 of K!TV for as long as I can remember. They are a class act band!

As for Creed. I've never really liked them since hearing "With arms wide open" on Q. But But it is just childish to tag them as boring all the time.

But I will still continue to buy it every week!

They are 2 faced...I can remember when they always used to slag off limp bizkit(durst especially), then as they were getting really popular, they would have 4 page features on them every week...and I can remember a time when there was at least 1 poster of limp bizkit every week (slight exxageration) <IMG SRC="rolleyes.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">

Kerrang is a big old bunch of arse. NME, though infuriating, is far superior, both in terms of the writing and simply the diversity of music they cover (though criticising a rock magazine for just covering rock is like criticizing sky sports for not having sitcoms, I suppose). I'm amazed that there isn't enough of a market to sustain more than these two fairly average mags...RIP melody maker.
By the way, Creed are really, really, REALLY bad. I mean, really bad.

Ive been reading Kerrang since i was about 12/13, and its readibility (spg?) has decreased quite a lot, but i will still buy it every week cause every week in their album review section, you will always find excellent reviews of good bands (if you look very closely) and they dont concentrate on nu metel that much anyway...a couple of issues ago they interviewed Alec Empire and he is so not nu metal so there is hope!! Anyone actually buy rocksound?...now that magazine is a sin

I gave up on Kerrang a long time ago...

This weeks issue has an article on Weezer which made out some things that were completely untrue about the bassist. Weezer.com had to explain what was actually meant on their website because it sounded like shriner (the bassist) wanted to kick frontman Cuomo's ass <IMG SRC="eek.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">
