Professor V.S Ramachandran gave the Reith Lectures 2003 on 'The emerging mind', basically a set of 5 half hour lectures on the workings of the brain, presented in language designed to be accessable to everyone.
He goes into such matters as; Why we laugh? Why some people 'see' sounds and 'hear' colours (Synesthesia)? How art is constructed and why we find certain art pleasurable.

I've heard someone suggest that some mental health problems could be because of an inbalance of DIPT, which given the drugs effects would make sense.
