This is the first year I've not had one and I'm 21.

I don't really miss it though, I kept forgetting to eat the chocolate cos I never eat in the morning, and then end up eating 5 days worth at once.

Is an "advent" calander different from just a normal calander?

'Normal' calanders don't have chocolate in them and go from January 1st - Decemeber 31st.

They go from Jan 1 to Dec 31, but they don't have chocolate, I feel so left out, I must find these advent calanders.

You don't have advent calendars in the US? Well, you learn something new every day :D

Well we may, I'm never the one to ask as I'm sheltered. :p So are there really 365 pieces of choclate? Wouldn't the choclate get stale by the time like March comes?
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
They run from 1st December to 24th December. You can also buy ones which run up until New Year too. They are flat cardboard box type things with a picture on the front and doors to open which contain the chocolate. Want a picture?

If you read my pst again, you will see that I said that with the ones that run for the whole year, they don't have any chocolate/sweet thing in them; only advent calanders have this in them.

I have never had one. :(

Though I satisfy myself by grabbing a couple of chocolate from my little sister's advent calender (I always take the ones a week ahead - so it'll take a while for her to realise ).

I'm 20 and I havent had one since I was 15/16. One of the departments at work have them each and they are 27, 28, 31 and 58. I just never get round to buying them any more.

Oh I see now, I totally read that wrong, have I mentioned I never learned to read ;)

I looked it up, do they all have stories also? Stories and candy, they sound fun. I'm so jelous of you all :(
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
They don't normally have stories. I've never seen one with stories anyway!! It's just a box with windows that have chocolate in. I don't have one this year.. I want one.

I keep getting one, as a custom. The kind with the chocolates.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Hold on. I know what they are! Or at least I think I do. When I was young like 5 and 6 and stuff, we would have the christmas jesus crap ones. Each day you would open a box and it would tell you part of the story of jesus up until the 25th. I think that must be the same thing! As advent is a christmas/christian thing, right? And I think, if I remember correctly, on the movie Christmas Vacation, they show one too, it doesn't have chocolates, but you open a window and its like the 12 days of christmas characters.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
yeah that's pretty much the idea. Except over here it has become less about Jesus and more about the chocolate.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
And overseas is where the best chocolate exists. I demand you send me some. Yes, I demanded. ;)

    I'm too lazy though :p
I wonder if I could find a Lion King advent calander, do you think they have those? Or maybe a sexy fit naked man advent calander?
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I've never seen a Lion King advent calendar I have to say...
Or a sexy fit naked man one, because they are usually aimed at children!

I have a Cadbury's one and I haven't opened the last couple of days :D

At school we have a set of stockings that have numbers on them that the kids made. I filled them with Quality Street and most of them don't like the sweet which means even more chocolate for meeeee :D
