I use www.beatport.com - that might be the sort of thing you want though.

Have a hunt through the below:

    http://www.pro-music.org/musiconline/tracker-region-europe.htm

UK part is right near the bottom.

If you look for some Russian Sites, they are cheapest, 'cos of the Laws over there. Few pence a song, I think.

    Why bother with legality ?

because it's legal and it's moral.

Here's a few to get you started:

    ID&T - http://www.dance-tunes.com
    TidyDigital - http://www.tidydigital.com
    Trackitdown - http://www.trackitdown.net
    Trax2burn - http://www.trax2burn.com
    Audiojelly - http://www.audiojelly.com
    DJ Downloads - http://www.djdownload.com/
    IMO Downloads - http://www.imodownload.com
    Above The Sky - http://www.atsdigital.com
    Bleep - http://www.warprecords.com/bleep/
    3 Beat Records - http://www.3beatrecords.co.uk/digital/
    Tmet Recordings NZ - http://www.tmet.co.nz
    Apple I-Tunes - http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/

And why buy legal downloads? Because you want to support the artists who make the music - its there livelyhood and they need an income to survive and continue making the music you love. What would you say if people expected you to work for free? You wouldn't be happy would you? Same principle... support the artists and the music will continue - don't and you contribute towards loosing it.

Places like HMV & Virgin are doing this now, aren't they? And aren't there some artists who have put songs on their websites for people to download?

Apparently if you signed up for your internet provider before september 2004 its illeagle for you to be sued, because its not written into the contact you agree before signing up that they can moniter your downloads, so techniqually, the company who see you are downloading musichave gained access to your ip details from your internet provider because they susspect downloading, and thus the provider are in breach of contract and everything is "irridmissable" in court (if that word is correct) and also can be counter sued for giving out your PERSONAL details to a 3rd company. which they say they WONT do in the contract that you 1st agree to when siging up for the internet, proven case, happened in germany i beleive and people have been trying to spread the word for like 5 months now.

I wasn't aware that anyone had ever had any legal action taken against them for downloading so far - everything I've seen has always been for seeding and distribution. You got a register link or something for that case in Germany?

Cant remember where i saw it, tis a annoying coz i wanted to print it out and had out flyers for it at camden, but quite a few palces seed while downloading now, so even if your downloading the file if u have half of it it starts seeding from you to new people starting to download, from what u have, so everybody gets faster downloads and stuff. but yeah, the law is downloaders dont get prosocuted, only uploaders seeders etc

Downloading is entirely legal. You are allowed to download copyrighted content for preview purposes etc so long as you delete it off your computer after 24 hours, so they can't technically sue you for 'Downloading' music. However, sharing copyrighted content is highly illegal - and inavoidable with protocols such as BitTorrent.

Or so i was led to believe :p
