voluntary organisation - you register any hours of voluntary work you do, and if you get 100 hrs in a year you get a hat, 200 hrs you get a certificate from the home secretary or something. i've only done about 20 hrs, over about 6 months. designed to get young people more involved with the community through voluntary work. great, if you like that kinda thing <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">

I wanted to take part in that, but where I live the only things available are cleaning old peoples houses during the day - while Im at school, and litter collecting in your community. Time Bank is much better (www.timebank.co.uk / org.uk I think) they do all sorts of deals - even abroad. From a week to 2 years!!! They send you a free pack with loads of ideas and stuff you can do, it's Waaaaayyyyyyy better than MV.

MV is (or is supposed to be) country wide - and they are supposed to find you something you are interested in, aswell as it helping your community.

Plus the great thing is you get something great to put on your CV

I've used www.do-it.org.uk to get voluntary work and found it really useful, in fact a bit too useful, there was so much stuff out there that I found it tricky to make choice.

The advantage of MV theoretically is that you should be able to count hours from any volunteering activity and get basic expenses paid like travel and basic training (although this may be area specific - I know that I should able to under the scheme for the Hampshire area administered by YMCA Fairthorne)

Its only a shame more people haven't been involved or had the chance to get involved in MV, as it recieved quite substantial funding from goverment iirc and unfortuntatly in most areas not as many people as expected have signed up to it.

I've ended up doing loads of work with Youth Rights and participation, which has been really interesting if a little tough on the brain. Although the volunteering I enjoyed most was being involved in the Soul Survivor (festivals not film) mission in Manchester, which was just working on an estate for five days in the summer cleaning and building new facilities in a park for the community. T'was hard work but a really rewarding experience.

I have volunteered with MV for maybe eight months...started after doing work experience in The Bournemouth offices. It's really cool. I am wiv this peer led Dj skool project. I've done 100 hours and on Monday next we are having a celebration event. Cool! And I'm doing some training too. It looks really good on your Cv/NRA and it's a great way of meeting new people. Oh yeah...wanna say HI to all Mv's in Bmth! xxx
