ok, i got my biology mock back today and i got an E. (AS level)

Gonna b a failure.

Ok, so i know ur gonna think i'm overreacting but i tried soooo hard and thought i had done well, but i didn't.

God i can't stop thinking about it, i'm so worried because i want to go to university and im not gonna get newhere gud wiv an E.

I worry too much, i have a fear of failure (kakorrhaphiophobia) i'm not joking i wud rather work day and night forever than get a bad mark.

Ok so my life is kinda pathetic, but i really want to do well. And wen i try my hardest and still come out shit and i know theres nothing else i can do theres not much hope is there?

The thing is i really wanted to drop geography at the end of this year. But now it looks like im going to have 2 drop biology & geography and then i won't get into uni

god im so crap. Wot can i do?!!?! I'v got so much work 2 do and i can't cope - i just start hyperventilating when i think about it

drifter, youre NOT gonna be a failure!! you should have seen how many people in my biology class actually got an N or U in the first mock we took in january of year 12. and then we had the real thing, 2 modules in june, and everyone failed them too. well i scraped a C, by one mark. but to me thats a BIG failure, im used to getting As without trying, and i didnt think id done that badly in the modules.

if you work at it you can do better, talk to your teacher maybe and say you want to achieve at least a C and ask how you can go about getting there. theres still plenty of time before things start getting serious and before failures start to potentially affect your life. anyway it was an E, some of my friends are still getting these grades now who want to go to uni! i got an E for one of my geog mocks, which was quite gutting. but i did a lot better in the real thing a few weeks after, ill find out my results in march i think.

try not to worry too much about it at the moment, you'll do okay!!!

If you don't know where you're going, you'll probably end up somewhere else.

Any chance of going to appeal & getting your paper re-marked?

what would be the point in that? its only a mock and its internal, theres plenty of time before any real exams take place that count towards anything, THEY can be remarked if you want but if you ask your teachers to remark a mock theyre likely to get funny with you!

well we were told that an E at AS/A Level was the equivilent to a C at GCSE. It was a bit of a shock when i got a mock mark of E, but remember it aint as bad as it looks and you have only been studying this course for 5 months.

    Respect

thanks i think i needed a hug! Right here goes -

    [RANT]

as for an E bein equivalent to a C @ GCSE maybe, but i got an A in my GCSE.

neway, we've decided that basically they expect u just to write a load of shit that they don't even ask for in the question. One of my friends wrote me a note and it said-

Question asked = irrelavent answer = 100% and that is sooooooo true. The mark scheme is a pile of shit

Theres nuffink we can do, these people sit around in their smoke filled rooms have executive lunches and dream up what stupid questions thy're gonna ask us and its all a pile of shit shit shit shit shit shit shit

I know its only a mock, but we're taking the exams in may! that is the only specimen paper the board have provided for the AS course and its all shit. I tried 2 complain 2 my teacher and she shouted @ me

she said she didn't write the mark scheme and it wasn't her fault we just had to do the best we could.

I'm not bein funny but u cud rite a fcuking jackanory story and get 100% but everything else u'd get a big fat red x

fcuking examiners i hate ur questions!!!!! Sort it out we're the fcukin guinea pigs every yr and we're the ones that get fcuked up because the sodding government decide to change the sodding system so we all have to work 5 times as hard doing so many subjects that u think ur brains r gonna fall out and then come out shit in the end @ all of them. FUCKING GOVERNMENT FUCKING EXAMINERS FUCKING TEACHERS. Pick on sum1 else!!!!

    [/RANT]

Sorry my rant is over now.

If there r any chief examiners out there tho - i'm watching out for u - u got some explaining to do

I know it's not any consolation but i just got an F in my biology mock!!! An F!!! Aghhh!! I got A in GCSE but i just don't seem to be doing anything right this year. I totally agree that the mark schemes are stupid. Most of my friends are struggling this year as well.

I'm not sure if biology is the same as history but in history we were told that they don't have the proper mark schemes for AS level yet so they have been using the old A Level mark schemes. So maybe as AS level is supposed to be easier(ha!)than A level the mark scheme will be easier? I doubt it though! Sorry I was trying to be encouraging, didn't quite work!

I just hope i'll be able to do better coz no way do i want an F in the real thing!! Its just a bit scarey that the proper exams are in May which doesn't give you much time to try and improve! aghhhh!! I wish we'd had a choice of whether we did As levels or A levels, somehow I think everyone would still be doing A levels! It's not fair! Why did they have to change it??
  • Girl-From-MarsGirl-From-Mars Posts: 2,822 Boards Guru
i was the last year to do A levels, and im quite glad!!!! ASes sound evil. wish i could be more help!!!

i know what you mean about mark schemes... when they ask you a question, make sure that you write every possible detail that you migh tknow about the sort of thing they ask, and even things you think might be unrelated, in bio exams im always spilling out onto the sides and underneath and stuff just to make sure i have everyting down. believe me, this is just getting used to A level exam technicque and you'll get better at this, i was rubbish the first year!!!

but it sucks only having one specimen paper. we only had a couple for some things coz they changed the syllabus at the last min. KILL ALL EXAMINERS!!!!

If you don't know where you're going, you'll probably end up somewhere else.

It's shit when u fail exams. If u got an A @ GCSE level it proves you must be pretty smart (or at least smarter than me cos I got a C).

U have only just started college so there's time 2 improve. If not then just take some new subjects next year.

    What do u wanna be?

    drifter-

i have been lurkin these boards for a while now and can see that you are an intelligent, articlate, clever and witty young person.

from someone who has come out the other side. I took a levels back in 96 (old skool) and did my mocks in jan of the same year.

i got a 'U' in History and my teacher basically said i had no chance. i hated the git for that and grew determined. i ended up passing and i have ended up with a 2.1 and had a fantastic 3 years at uni.

basically what i am saying is that if you believe in yourself, chat to others on your course, maybe get into some study seshs with others on your course and share the knowledge (maaannn!!!) which i know is hard (believe me) and take all help offered.. you will be fine.

listen to the people on here, you have come across as a level headed, intelligent and generally cool person and all these attributes will lead you into your future.

    take care

Liberty - i think i want do sociology or social science at uni. Most of the courses i don't think u actually need a science, but it wud b nice to jus bak it up

Thanks for all the advice! I am inspired to work really hard now!
