Creative zen have a radio and you can open the back to replace the battery if you need to. I love mine, so much better than the ipod!

I admit I rarely listen to the radio as it is; only been listening to it for the last few weeks because I haven't got my MP3 player. :(

Is it true that the iPod batteries aren't replacable?

After looking on Amazon & eBay, I think I might get a Creative Zen when I have the money.

I think the term is Non User Servicable, or something like that. It means they want you to send it back to them for replacement, which will cost a fortune, therefore meaning most people will weigh up the cost against a new (and better, or at least more desireable fashion-wise) ipod, and hopefully buy a new one. Crafty ploy I reckon.
You should be able to do it yourself though, but don't expect it to be easy. Have a Google for instructions on how to replace an ipod battery.
I have seen ipod batteries advertised, so it must be possible.

I think the point about the Zen is that it's been designed to make the battery easily replaced by the owner.

ipod mini wouldn't be big enough for me...

After looking in the Argos catalogue earlier, I worked out that it's much better to get a Creative Zen because it's about 10 quid cheaper even with the radio... (And before anyone asks, they both have the same amount of memory)

Well why not just get a Bigger size then?

Who cares about a radio really you've got a mp3 because you want your music to listen to where ever you are!

BBC Watchdog did a whole item about iPod batteries. And I read on another site that Apple are being sued in the US because of them. I think Sony are meant to be the best for battery life. According to Kelkoo the new Walkman 20GB has a battery life of "up to 40 hours".

That would obviously change with use...

Yes, I'm sure that's true. Also I think Kelkoo's claim sounds somewhat optimistic. Even so, as a general rule, I'd say Sony battery life is one of its USPs.

Another weapon Apple has in it's arsenal: i-trip

It's class. It's obviously great in the car and at home it's like using your ipod as a remote to select whatever music you want on the stereo. I love it.

I have a Creative, which I'm pleased with...apart from the fact it's not very pretty.

    But I reckon I'll live.

Wait until you sit on it.

Or until you realise the battery life sucks.

Creative are supiror, my girlfriends Zen micro is great, the controls are really good and i like the kind of flat touch buttons and even though its a blue n black screen its GREAT, even comes with a little cover to protect it from being dropped,

    Ipods imo suckkkkkkkkkkkkkk

Lmao. Seriously, that has to be the best argument i've seen in this thread. Using tactics such as doing THIS, and... "this".

I especially liked your closing tactic, where you deployed the "Hold the key for as long as possible" technique. Absolutely classic, striking argument. This boy is under-represented on the boards.

Also, just out of interest, how does the little cover protect it from being dropped? Is it some kind of anti gravity cover? How mystical and fantastic!

I think your post perfectly describes the type of people who buy Zens, and why.

Anyway, seriousness now. I own a 60gb photo ipod, and i've found the battery life to be really good imo. I left it on all day without knowing and about a third of the battery went down.

Plus the fact i couldn't possibly burn the whole battery down in my daily routine, and i plug it in every night to update my news podcasts etc. Looking to get an iTrip for the car, and the colour screen is fantastic. Having all my photos there to look through is brill.

To the people who have battery issues, don't forget your ipod carries a 12 month guarantee, and even then its easy to change the battery, you can pick up a new ipod battery for a few quid off ebay.

But I would hesitate to buy one if it ran out of petrol permanently after, say, a year so I couldn't refuel it and would have to buy a new one.

the zen and the ipod dose not come close to the sony nw-hd5 cos it is half the size of both and 20gb and 40hrs life with changeable batteries and 13000 songs so haha and sounds better than both and easier to use ppl say if u have a zen it takes time to get used to it. then they crash the system on them is crap all my friends Zen have frozen at lest 6 time this year.

How much is the Sony one anyway? According to my brother, with makes like Sony, you are paying for the name...
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,875,648 The Mix Honorary Guru
it is £180 for 20gb or £200 for the 30gb

a Zen 'freezing' can be sorted with a saftey pin, it causes no harm, you don't lose any music and most importantly you don't have to grovel to apple for a new battery/hard drive.

as for the Sony, it isn't an mp3 player, it converts music to a sony file type that can't be used outside of that player.

It just means you have to install the sony software, rather than just dragging and dropping songs, a la creative Zen.
