Is alcohol not a chemical?
Does Hash not contain chemicals?
What you must mean is:
'Why do people do synthetic and designer drugs?'

Because it's no different to taking natural drugs. Both get you high, both can damage your body. It's not that the drugs are more simple either, Cannabis has over hundreds of different chemicals in it that most scientists still don't know anything about.

I wonder, do you eat a lot of sweets or drink alot of fruit and fizzy drinks such as Sunny Delight and Hooch. These contain loads of thing like flavourings and artificial sweetners but people still drink them along with natural foods with very little adverse effects, maybe a few bad teeth (Sunny.D) or a hangover(Hooch).

As for not being ablee to have a good time without 'em. I asume you drink and therefore enjoy getting pissed up with your friends. Can you not stay sober and have a good time with your friend?
Of course you can, and it's the same with me and drugs but it helps to be wrecked wether you pissed or high.

Comedowns - In my experience not half as bad as a hangover. People wouldn't take drugs if the comedown outweighed the good times, same as people with drink and hangovers.

Addiction - Most drugs you can't get addicted to physically. Things you can get addicted to physically are Coke, Heroin, Alcohol, fags. The danger is becoming mentally addicted to a drug (such as wizz) and developing a dependence. On the whole in my experience most people are quite head strong and know what there doing and can tell if they're abusing or just using. It's a shame that these drugs are illegal people with a drug addiction are less likely to be noticed and helped than people with a drink addiction. Because Alcohol is legal, people arn't forced to hide it but it's different with illegal drugs.

I'm happy doing drugs, raving and clubbing until I reach a point in my life when I'll finally need to grow up and get some responsibilities. I'm 19 going on 16, that point is still on the horizon.

People do them because they like them. People that dont like them dont do em simple as that really. We all know the dangers just as much as we do about alchol but unfortunaly it dont stop those who wanna do them from doingv them. Just coz u do em dont mean u cant have a good night without them (although thats the case with me). It just means that your night might be better with them <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">

Hi Fairy Pie,

You are asking really good questions here, and agree with pretty much everything Skive had to say. However, I think the important thing to realize is that everyone has a different opinion about drugs, and everyone reacts differently to them.

I guess I'm trying to say that nobody can say for sure why people use drugs, get addicted, or why people react the way they do. If we knew the answers, we would be able to treat addiction and make drugs safe and legal.

Wouldn't it be amazing if one day science would be able to tell you before you tried anything if you were going to get addicted to it or have a bad reaction to it. Man, if I knew that I'd go through 2 battles with addiction, there is no way I would have tried anything. Oh well, maybe one day...

I think what it comes down to is escapism. Drugs offer a different reality, they let people forget about whatever it is that's going on in their lives. People can escape reality in so many different ways (tv for example), but drugs are a guarantee, and are a lot more effective.

If you're desperate enough or depressed enough to do hard drugs, and take enough of them to get truly addicted, it becomes a lifestyle, your whole existence revolves around the drug (again, more escapism). Eventually this becomes more of a problem than whatever it was that you're escaping from, but by that time it's hard to stop.

Softer drugs (alcohol and weed) do the same thing, and can also be incredibly dangerous, and can (and have many, many times) result in death.

The two people who are closest to me right now are both alcoholics. One has been sober for 14 years. The other is still struggling with their problem, and is also a heroin addict who was forced to straighten up but sometimes lapses. It's really hard for me to understand their mindsets because I've never wanted to do drugs in my life, even though I've been exposed to them many, many times. I think they were just born with really addictive personalities.

Arg, I have to stop this post, I'm going to cry any second...

The extreme faction is closer than you thought.
