I logged on to find discussions of E and was happily suprised to find quite a few. What I don't understand is all the very positive messages about this drug! I've done it far too many times to count and find it very dangerous. I went through a faze at the beginning of 2001 where I was doing it in quantity every three days or so, and I swear I'm still coming off of it now. I don't know, maybe all the people out there have jsut started using it, I started in '94, '95 and yeah it was awesome. But now, if there was one thing I could take back it would be all the E I've taken. It changes you, if you had any natural happiness left, it takes it away, I can tell by experience. I have been doing coke occassionally and I'm fine with it, and the club scene seems to be just fine without the E. It's dangerous shit, and I'm curious to see if any of the hardcore users out there have had this same happiness issue after using it for a while
Peace, carpe diem (if it doesn't kill u)

Interesting post, yes I agree we often defend the use of esctasy on this board, several of us (myself, skive, lolly) have been long-term users like yourself, I have been using since 1994 and many would consider it regular heavy-use especially as I take on average about 5-6 pills a night when clubbing.

I've cut down dramatically since earlier this year, 6 months ago for just under a year I was taking about 20 pills a weekend, over xmas this increased for 2 weeks to about 7 pills a night.

I've had about 4 scares, two where I was seriously ill at home and one where I ended up in hospital with minor kidney damage. I've had several friends go through rough patches too, one person I knew died.

Yet I continue use, stupidly you may add, I'm not sure, I do suffer side effects and I'm well aware of the dangers, I made an effort to study the drug in depth so I understood my risk taking better. I also found it useful to defend myself when people told me I didn't know what I was doing.

Is esctasy good for you? medically no, but then nor is drinking or smoking, its a social factor... I'd consider it safer in moderate proportion in comparison to things such as smoking.

The one thing I do think esctasy is good for is on an educational basis, it can help you learn more about yourself and indeed others, one thing we've all got to admit is that once you've had esctasy you never look at the world the same again.

Does it have side effects? I believe so, I've certainly suffered/suffer from a few:

* Damagement of knee/ankle joints
* Weakness to bright light (occasionally)
* Blackouts
* Short term Paralisation (occasionally)
* Short/Long term memory loss
* Mood swings and depression

But do I regret doing it? In a word, despite what I've said I don't regret it, its helped make me who I am. I'm certainly a lot more open minded that I used to be, I'm more tolerant of people and have a more easy going attitude on life.

Could the music industry survive without the drug scene? No.

The current dance music industry was built upon the foundations of esctasy and still is, the amount of users has risen dramatically since 1988, the industry itself is one of the fastest growing markets in this country and heavily profitable. Is the current trend of music the sound of esctasy? Quite probably, one way I know for a fact that many DJs and Producers operate is by listening/making a track and imagining its potetial for a person high on esctasy.

I don't think the club scene would survive without a drugs culture, they are its foundations, part of its creativeness and its future. Certainly if it was reduced back down to its alcohol beginnings then it would surely fade away and die.

Esctasy is a risk, education about this risk should be read up before taking, prevention of accidents needs to increase and that boils down to education.

Esctasy will never be 100% safe, but I take that risk on my own head, I am aware of its consiquences, from an educational point of view it has opened my eyes further than possibly ever without it. <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">

I have been using it for a much shorter period of time, about 8 months, so I can't comment on any long term effects.

That sums up what my current views are on it right now.
