You can have a debit card at 16.
In some circumstances, but most do not. Solo doesn't count.

But even that misses the point: why can someone have sex, but not watch a video of it? Aren't the priorities a bit screwed there, that a teenage boy can go and fuck his wife but not watch some big-chested blonde tart do it on tape.

The arguement around this (which lead to the previous chair of the BBFC getting sacked when the R-18 was first introduced - if my memory serves right) is about how easy it is to use someone else's card. In the eyes of the current government it's easier to fake who you are online than fake who you are when you actually walk into a shop.

I'm not convinced that importing porn is legal in this country as it would be dependent on what decision customs made in reference to the obsenity laws. Most pornography tends to be edited for the UK R-18 rating (if only by seconds), so anything imported would breach the obsenity laws. Most online UK sellers simply run websites outside the UK and mail product from inside the UK, as the postal service (as opposed to customs) don't open parcels.

What I'd like to know... What is the reason why there's an age restriction on an act that brings life to the world?

If you wrap kids up in cotton wool they will rebel.

Because sometimes adults like to abuse children?

Because porn can be psychologically/emotionally damaging to young minds?

A rather different thing altogether, but I have always been amazed at those so-called decency campaigners who hit the roof if even partial female nudity- namely naked breasts- are seen on TV before the watershed.

Anyone who thinks the sight of a human female breast might be damaging or corrupting to children is seriously fucked up themselves IMO.

The terrible "scandal" of Janet Jackson exposing one breast during the Superbowl (will someone think of the children!) comes to mind...

Of course it does. It's the same as in a shop! Not all shops accept all brands of cards and in the same way not all internet shops accept all brands of cards.

However if you are still unconvinced

    www.amazon.co.uk

A baby can suck their mother's breast, but as soon as they're old enough to stop feeding that way it's suddenly a taboo...

A man can walk around public topless, but a woman can't... Personally I think if anything, that's degrading towards women.

I dont think ease of card use addresses the underlying contrdiction in the law. You may legaly participate in sex at 16. Prostitution is illegal but filming sex and paying them for it isnt, even at 16 if you get parents permission.
