I watched 'The Read Red Caps' on ITV last night and it seemed really good.

Was just wondering if any of you are in the RMP.

What do you have to do to become one.

You need Cs in english and maths at most jobs now adays to be honest. Employers can be choosey of who they employ so might be worth while retaking GCSEs.

You could look at going in with another trade and then if you're still interested in RMP to transfer into them later. But best see your local army careers office about the options.

TBH I saw too many problems caused by some cocksure RMP lance-jack just out of short trousers and if I had my way they'd would serve in another regiment first and only be let into the RMP when they had some maturity.

On the GCSE's - as RMP you'll be having to write up reports (which may be evidence in courts-martial or civilian courts).

I'm not sure the above is a helpful comment. All of the other advice I have read relating to this thread is spot on, but I'd say there is some sensitivity lacking here.

While GCSEs in Maths and English are particularly important these days, there are people who don't have them who are perfectly sound communicators and can work with numbers efficiently.

If you choose to retake GSCEs you should do it becasue you feel it will help you on the next rung on the ladder - not for a minute becasue of what other people might think.

I'd avoid the RMP, their more hated than the normal police. That's just what I've been told by the squadies I know.

They're a neccessary part of the system and the good ones can be very good indeed, but some of the bad ones can start a riot within a few seconds...
