I started taking them round about february, so it must have been near to my 17th birthday.

As for what I think of them.... they've made me a much better (in my opinion) and happier person. I have a much broader mind, am a lot less judgemental, and I have met people who are so unbelievably fantastic I can't believe it. I can express myself better, and am more out going as a person.
The feeling when on E... well, its like no other.

I took 2, both when I was 16. One was great, the other one a nasty experience. I don't know whether it was because I was on some strong medication at the time that may have reacted with it. That's the trouble with E, there's a lot of conflicting information around. I would take it again, but the people I hang around with now are not into it so it's not really going to happen. It's my view that you should try things for yourself if you want to and make your own mind up.

my 1st was about a year ago, i'll never forget it ! I just wish the whole world could drop a pill all at the same time, it would make such a difference - thats how good it is !

pills recieve such an unjust press and as a result are so misunderstood, maybe with time attitudes will change, lets hope so

in the words of pied piper - 'enter the dragon..........................

drugs may be the road to nowhere, but at least there the scenic route

I think you should read everything the Scientologists have written about drugs before you drop a pill....

...just kidding! Ecstasy is like any drug, it's not going to change the world, but unlike nicotine or alcohol I would say there are more positive things you can bring from the experience (if taken in moderation) than negative.

Drugs clearly do change the world, in positive and negative ways - the drugs industry is worth billions, the amout of deathd nicotine cause alone has an impact on the world, and i really believe if the whole world dropped simultaneously then alot of positive things would arise from it, it certainly changed my attitude to alot of things, i'm not saying it would bring world peace or anything, but the would ba alot of subtle changes in society

Ecstacy opens your mind to a new light, like Justin said. It gives you different views of life. A spiritual drug, makes everything peaceful. Greatest drug ever made <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">

I started using at 18.

Btw, dont drive on E its not smart. Took my ignorance to figure that out for myself. Hope youll use my experience to your advantage.

Think of the number of people you've seen get roudy on ecstasy , and then think how many times you've seen people out of control and get violent on drink. I bet you that bloke would have got just as mad if he was straight.

Which is entirely my point - drugs do not just have specific effects in and of themeselves - effects of drugs are very much down to the interaction between the pharmacology of the drug, the individuals personality and the culture that the drug is taken in. Look at the impact that E is having on the US hip hop scene - the beats are getting weirder, but theres no PLUR stuff, if anything, its seen as a way of getting to shag more bitches and ho's.
Or look at LSD - the CIA used it for mind control and paranoia, the hippies used it for mind expansion and peace and love.
Read 'Acid Dreams: The complete social history of LSD' by Martin Lee & Bruce Shlain for a good analysis of this type of thing.

Hey why the fuck do you bother with pills!? You should just stick to weed, its so much better. There is nothing better than sitting in a room with a load of friends toking on a bong with some ska punk in ya ears, it rules!
And now i'm off to smoke a joint, au revoir!

Some people don't like weed - they find it makes them feel anxious, depressed and apathetic.
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,324 The Mix Honorary Guru
Well i aint gonna complain, personal preference, everyone has a right to an opinion. I dont like E, but if thats what makes you happy then just enjoy yourself.
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,324 The Mix Honorary Guru
I think the news has given too much hype about E.

It doesn't kill if you know what you're doing.

If you're taking for your first time take it preferablly with a crowd of people whoa re experienced with the drug. ANd at the least take it with a group of other people, don't do it on your own.

They say take a pint of water every hour...it's as simple as this:glass of water with you and take a sip every now and then. Don't go mad on it though either!

It's fun to take and I think certainly it's a good experience to try once or twice but it can be dnagerous and can mess you up if you take it too often.

Ok You lot that are popping 'e' since ur early teens will probly be the casualties of the future of brain and neuro problems or be senile or demented by middle age - Have any of you ever had a MRI ( brain scan done) ? It would probly show holes in your brain by now. fact is They are still waiting to see what the major long term effects of taking e will be. They do know it screws with your pineal gland that controls seratonin levels and moods. Taking e makes it harder for your brain to produce normal levels of seratonin ( the brain chemical that makes u happy) There fore leading to depression and relying on the drug to keep u up. The short term dangers are no Joke either, u think u may be safe and doing the right thing by drinking lots of water. But risk of drinking to much water can happen, E Numbs the part of the brain that tells you when ur bladder is full, too much water in short space of time could coz fatal problems if u suffer a 'backflow' when the toxins and urine can no longer be held in the bladder and flow back the way - I really cant understand why people would want to jeopardize there health for a high, Sadly Its something you dont relise untill you lose it, Noone is untouchable!!!

That is wrong in every conceivable way, that I don't know where to start.
Good intentioned maybe, and I'm sure that heavy use of E does cause damage, but 'backflow'? Get yer facts right fer fucks sake!
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,324 The Mix Honorary Guru
excuse me but i do have my facts straight! If all heavy users where to get brain scans it would show brain damage to the brain!! HOLES - and it does very much so mess with your Brain chemistry and messes up the neurotrasmitters, electrical activity, and regulation centers in the brain. People can have seizures and have died from them.
Even after u have come down from just taking 'e' once! you will have a lower level of serotonin than before and each time you recover from a comedown Your level gets lower and lower, so you would only be able to get a high or be happy when on the drug and fall into clinical depression. Now dont tell me that , that is all wrong and aload of crap, these are the facts , and the biggest fact of all is it can do about anything to you! and with everyone that takes 'e' its a wait and see game, to see what extent the brain damage could be in the long term...What dont you understand about the possibilty of a 'backflow' if that part of the brain is numbed/ by the drug, (Which alcohol has the oposite efect of) then u are in danger of that if u drink too much fluids..How do they know this? because people have died that way.

You seem to think that we must be stupid or something. We know what we're doing.

I'm not saying what you said is false but with the right education and precautions most of what you said is easily avoidable. Infact thousands of people safely take pills very weekend.

Pills do damage nerve endings in a certain area of the brain. These nerves however grow back. Unfortunately they grow back differently and scientists have yet to understand if this will effect heavy users later in life. Then again I doubt heavy drinkers will have a very healthy liver when they're older (just look at the news).

Here's some info of my own.

Figures obtained for me by Sylvia of MAPS, 5/97

Seems deadly dosn't it! In this country we have on average about 6 deaths a year. To say that a person died from Ecstasy is never the full story any more than saying that someone died of drink: like alcohol, Ecstasy can be used without any harmful effect. In both cases, death is due to the indirect effects which can be avoided if you are aware of the dangers and look after yourself. The difference is that the dangers of being drunk are well known and recognised, while the dangers resulting from Ecstasy use are far less known. Far from saving young people from harm, much of the so-called drugs education has confused users by trying to scare them, rather than explain the dangers and how to avoid them.

Dangers

Drinking too much water is reported to have killed 3 people so far, all in the past year, presumably because 'harm prevention' advice has concentrated on drinking plenty of water. The point is that overheating is the main danger of taking Ecstasy; sweating is essential to avoid overheating and water is essential in order to sweat. However, water can be harmful if you drink more than you can get rid of by sweating or pissing. It may then dilute your blood, and diluted blood causes tissue cells to swell, but the brain cannot swell inside the skull and the pressure can build up to a dangerous level. There should be no problem if your you drink plenty of water and piss plenty of pale piss. Danger signs to look out for are compulsive drinking, not being able to piss or dark piss in spite of drinking lots of water.

There are several other dangers associated with Ecstasy use, but by knowing about and recognising the dangers, it is possible to reduce the risks to a minimum. The most important thing to be aware of is that Ecstasy masks discomfort and pain, so that you may feel OK and carry on doing something when you would normally feel awful and stop. Most Ecstasy-related deaths are due to overheating and dehydration from dancing: instead of rushing outside gasping for air and cold water, some people just carry on getting hotter until they reach a fatal temperature (which is only a few degrees above normal). Asthmatics have been known to die from attacks while on Ecstasy, and it may be that again the usual warning signals were not felt. Another effect of Ecstasy that can be dangerous is that it causes an increase in blood pressure, normally no problem but possibly fatal for someone with a weak heart. The same dangers also apply to amphetamine. Some bad reactions may also be due to allergies and interactions with other drugs such as inhalers used by asthmatics; this is an area that should be researched.

Risk

The fact is that everything we do is risky, and that it is possible to reduce the risk with knowledge, looking after yourself and being with friends who look after one another. This applies just as much to taking Ecstasy as to rock climbing.

In my book, I have shown that many 'respectable' activities are more dangerous than taking Ecstasy. Recently I have found statistics that show the risk is similar to fishing! If we assume that Ecstasy is taken on 25 million occasions a year (half a million a week), and that there are 5 Ecstasy-related deaths per year, then this compares favourably with 10 deaths related to fishing, which is done on 45 million occasions a year, and 12 deaths resulting from horse riding which is done on 40 million occasions. (Source: Government statistics in OPCS Monitor DH4 92/4).

Some people will argue that you cannot compare good healthy sporting activities with bad sleazy drug taking. Well, then let's compare drinking alcohol with illicit drugs. The Royal College of Physicians recently published a report called Alcohol and the Young, whose president (Professor Turnberg) was quoted in The Times: "The impact that drugs have on the young has received huge publicity. What is not so widely recognised is that alcohol causes ten times as much damage [to the same age group, 16 to 25] as drugs." I failed to find supporting data in the report, but if true and there is more than one illicit drug user to every ten drinkers under 25, then turning people away from drugs may result in them doing more harm to themselves by drinking instead.

Critics will say that all these figures are based on guessed statistics as regards drug use. True, but I have taken the lowest guess and use is very likely to be far greater than I have assumed, leading to the conclusion that Ecstasy use carries less risk than, for instance, fishing. But facts are hardly the issue: the situation could be compared to when Darwin produced evidence to show that humans are descended from animals: for many years he did not dare to publish his findings for fear of the reaction of the intolerant establishment and church.

©Nicholas Saunders, 12/95 (revised 2/96)

Evidence against Ecstasy being neurotoxic is provided by recent approval of a slimming pill called fenfluramine (widely used in Europe for many years without harmful effects). Tests which indicate Ecstasy as neurotoxic also indicate that fenfluramine is neurotoxic. Yet fenfluramine has recently been approved in the USA for unlimited use on the grounds that its benefits outweigh possible risks. This was because the US Food and Drug Administration expert committee did not accept the test results were valid. When applied to Ecstasy, however, identical test results have been used as proof of neurotoxicity.

Quite independently, recently published research established that there was no neurotoxicity in humans in cases where it was predicted by animal studies.

The association with Parkinson's disease is shown to be unfounded, and it is pointed out that although Ecstasy has been widely used for over two decades in the USA, the predicted casualties have not materialised.

If you've never done it then I can easily understasnd why you can't see the point in doing it.

The reason people die from drinking too much water is because it gets carried around the blood, and you drown.

I'm fully aware of the possiblilty of depression being caused by E, I'm also aware that there may be a chance of brain damage (although nothing has been proved). I weighed up the pros and cons long ago, and made my decision.
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,324 The Mix Honorary Guru
Skive Im not saying I think you are all stupid, but some really are about it, and brag about how mental they are - and i know the stastics show that the risk of death is low, your probly right when you say fishing is more dangerous. My point really is that no matter how safetly or educated people are about taking it, They are still vulnerable to long term damage in the brain and depression. I agree totaly that some other drugs and alcohol do much more damage short term and long term. Ive seen what alcoholism can do and how it destroys, Ive been through my experimental years as a teen and seen a few friends get almost totaly screwed over by drugs. Im not here to fight or piss anyone off- just looking to join in on the discussion
