How to land your dream job

Hi guys - thought you might like to know about this web chat happening tomorrow - looks quite useful...

Final year university students are preparing to enter the job market and are hoping to succeed in finding that dream job in spite of the immense competition for graduate posts. Adam Shaw, from BBC 2’s Working Lunch, is on hand to help you stand out from the crowd and land that dream job.

The report commissioned by Foundation Degree, found that along with confidence and personality, one of the most important things employers look for is an understanding of the industry in which they are working. This is something that is often lacking in university graduates unless they’ve had considerable work experience. Despite having good qualifications graduates can often cut themselves out of the market because of a lack of knowledge about the industry.

One of the ways of gaining experience and understanding is a work experience placement, but competition for these is harsh and they are often unpaid which can make it very difficult for skint students. However the report did find that almost half of workers believe that taking some form of vocational qualification would be the key to getting them the edge when it comes to looking for a new job.

Having the right qualifications and being able to talk knowledgeably about the industry you are hoping to get into are also the keys to gaining confidence and ensuring that comes across at interview.

Join Adam at 2pm on Thursday 3rd March to find out more about what employers are looking for and how to make sure you give them what they want.
