and you'se haven't mentioned the cheeky girls yet....tut tut

i've always related to faithless lyrically, alot of rock bands can be too metaphorised in their lyrics and it seems like they're only saying it to sound deep, meaningful and understanding, not saying the lyrics arne't good or nothing just faithless get to the point and do it in a good way.

    Ani DiFranco... No questions asked.

And I think when you grow up surrounded
    By willful ignorance
You have to believe that mercy has its own country
And that it's round and borderless
And then you just grow wings
    And rise above it all
Like there where that hawk is circling
    Above that strip mall

    Or...

I walk in stride with people
    much taller than me
and partly it's the boots but
    mostly it's my chi
    and I'm becoming transfixed
with nature and my part in it
    which I believe just signifies
    I'm finally waking up

and there's this moth outside my kitchen door
she's bonkers for that bare bulb
    flying round in circles
    bashing in her exoskull
and out in the woods she navigates fine by the moon
but get her around a light bulb and she's doomed

Ani rocks... I mean she's a powerful woman with awesome lyrics. She's versatile, original and genuine. How can anyone not love her?

    Rock on Ani!

    Well for me the Libertines.

It all depends upon what you can relate to most though doesn't it - you're more likely to be touched by something you understand.

That's actually what I like so much about the eels. He uses metaphors a lot but avoids coming off like a pseudo-sad wanker. His lyrics are actually clever and funny and, when he being serious, more genuiene than other songwriters.

An odd choice granted, but when you look at them objectively A.C. have some of the greatest lyrics. Most of their lyrics bring out the odd belly laugh although they did go too far on more than one occasion. Musically they are shite but the song titles are inspired and in their own twisted way they're geniuses.

Other than that I'd say Morrissey.

    :o

wash your mouth out with soap and water and never speak the good name of ani in the same sentence as that trite again.

i agree that NIN songs are well written though.
