Summer School 2005
Young People Change the World!

The International Summer School for Young Activists to be held in India
Mahindra United World College, Pune, India
5th to 13th July 2005

Young social activists and community entrepreneurs from 50 countries responding to critical social, cultural and environmental challenges. Be part of dialogue, music, stories, adventures, reflection and skills training at a stunning campus outside Mumbai in India. Join us for the opportunity to share ideas, enhance your practical skills and develop international collaborations.

The Summer School is run by young people for young people. The programme consists of skill workshops (fundraising, advocacy, communication theatre, film making, photography, puppetry etc.) and theme workshops and discussions (a different theme for each day human rights, peace and conflict resolution, globalization and livelihood, gender equity, HIV/AIDS and sexuality, environment and sustainable development).

Participants are encouraged to work with others on a practical project during the summer school and present their ideas, work and explorations on the final day. And it won¹t be all work and no play, there will be plenty of fun events too! These include film screenings, an international night, an open mike night, song and dance and adventure related activities. In the past, over 70% of participants have rated the event as ³Excellent² and 2005 should be even better!

Those who would be interested in staying on in India (for a period of 10 days to a month) are encouraged to do so and will have the option of volunteering with an NGO. There will be lots of opportunities for you to participate in the programme, to present your work and ideas to others and to forge partnerships to take your ideas forward in other parts of the world.

    Hey guys,

The English Secondary Students' Association is a new organisation that is working to become the equivalent of the NUS for secondary students.

It will be officially launching on 4th February 2005 at te Trades Union Congress in Central London. ESSA welcomes students from across England to apply for a place on the conference. Application forms can be downloaded from our website: http://www.studentvoice.co.uk/conference.htm
