this is really weird.

i can't remember anything anymore, i feel like im about 80 and going senile.

people say to me "do you remember that time..." and im like no, that never happened! and theyre like, yes it did whats wrong with you?!?!

it's got me really worried now, i don't do drugs and i only drink alcohol occasionally. does ne1 have ne ideas, and what i can do about it?

I have the same problem! Unfortunately it appears to have started around the time that I started drinking...

Tricky one this, I know my memory's degraded quite a lot, especially for the periods from when I was 14-15 and also 18-20, large sections of my life seem to have disappeared.

On the other hand I've got the excuse of having huge amounts of drugs during those times, but I wish I could remember more.

My housemate's memory is amazing, he can remember precise dates and times of the most obscure events, but he does even more drugs than I do.

Some answers can be found in Neurobiology, the memory commital, storage and recall functions of the brain are still relatively unknown. What is known is that the brain restructures itself on a fairly regular basis, including (presumably) those memories already commited. Because no process is perfect some data must be lost each time, and that which is least used is most likely, but this is all conjecture really.

Memory, fascinating ideas and concepts, if only I could remember them.......

    ....any Neurobiologists out there??

    Only users lose drugs

Not sure if you've considered this, but calcium is a major part of being able to remember. I know it seems obvious, just something to think about.

The most common cause is likely to be anxiety, stress, or depression.

I've been noticing this with myself for a while now. Like Karla just said though, it could be related to depression, which I know i definatly have suffered from, not sure about you? Like earlier I went to the cupboard and opened it, stood there for a while, then shut the door, and then thought "What the fuck did I do that for?", and then five minutes later I'll think "Oh shit, i didn't take my Prozac when I just went to the cupboard. I do sometimes feel very senile. It's scary.

Lack of sleep - exams, stress, all contribute, also read that caffine had a detremental effect.

Dont know the medical backgrounding to that though <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">

ive been like this for about a year now my memory is terrible, my reason though is due to having glandular fever & an underactive thyroid one of them messes up your memory apparently cant remember which one!!!
anyway if there is something you really need to remember try telling yourself it over & over again & gradually it will stick in there somewhere.
    good luck

lack of sleep, exams, stress, anxiety, yes. maybe calcium deficiency, don't have caffenine, not depression (but possibly - its complicated).
