WWOOFing, (World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms is a terrific scheme whereby volunteers exchange their time and labour for bed and board, and an opportunity to learn about organic agriculture, horticulture, woodland management and so on. The host farms and families are usually great people, predictably they are often interested in Green politics and Alternative lifesyles. The food is very often plentiful and well cooked, fresh straight from the farm. I've wwoofed for several years, in Britain and abroad, often in areas of great beauty. I'd recommend it to all those who can handle the usual physical farm work, but those who can't may also be able to participate on this scheme, as many hosts have work around the home, diy, arts and crafts, cooking and child care etc.
