Try not to be nervous! I know its hard not to be but I'm sure it'll go ok!
Tell them how your feeling, your doctor will prob. ask how long u have been feeling like this, whether you've felt like it before or been on any medication for it before and if u have any ideas why u r feeling like u do.
Don't worry too much about how much u say coz they'll ask u questions if they need 2 know more. Hopefully you'll get a decent doctor so u should be ok!
Good luck

Seeing a dr about depression is no different from seeing a dr about the flu say. If you are feeling depressed it is very important to see a dr at the earliest possible signs, procrastination in the long run makes things worse. Litterally all you got to say is how you feel any noticeble differences in the way you live your life if you know what is causing this basically as I say like describing the flu except it's a less visible illness. He / She may prescribe a course of anti-depressants and possibley refer you for more special psychiatric care which as dautning as it sounds is very important.
Good luck with Charley let us know how it goes and if we can help in any way

If you've been cutting then you do need help. I don't think a doc can help you as such, maybe a councillor would be better.

When I first went to my doctor he sent me away saying there was nothing wrong with me. Later on, I was diagnosed with clinical depression by Richmond House (a place where councilling takes place) and perscribed Prozac.

Personally, I wouldn't go to the medical doctors for depression as most of the doctors I've seen are insensitive & know as much about the hardships of life as I know about the Japanese government (i.e. not much).

I'm not trying to put you off getting help, but maybe you could go to your school/college councillor, it's better to talk to someone sympathetic & understanding rather than a stuck up doctor who thinks he knows it all.

Anyway, pls take care!

Charley, remember that nothing you have ever gone through is different to what others have done in the past - you won't shock him or anything. He's there to help. Tell him things as he asks you and over time, you might feel more comforatble to say more. Just remember, truthful answers (no matter how painful) will assist you in your recovery. Take care! *hugs*

I was on prozac for years and its only really since coming off it that I realised how it was when I was on it, if u no wat I mean! I think I felt the way I did due to that fact I was on a lot of other shit that hadnt been prescribed for me! I never really felt connected to anything and I kind of felt numb. Also it effected my co- ordination, which it can do to some people and that was a bit pants for me as Ive was a dancer lmfao! Never the less I couldnt have lived without it and although it didnt solve my crap it certainly helped me get through it.
Im really glad u took the step and went to the docter, I just hope things start to look up for u no...stay positive

Sorry, I missed this bit! Well as u can see from my post above, I felt exactly as u have. Trust me though, its worth being on it when u r depressed. I always felt numb anyway so I guess it wernt that bad! I hope it helps u out anyway

yeh i guess teh numb feelin has been there 4 a while, but i kinda hoped that bein on it would make it go away. o well we cant have everythin...oh i also read that it can lead to a lotta stuff like not bein able to feel emotion wen ure on it. yup, no difference there. hmmm..im just gonna hack it out, it probly wont do me any good otherwise. thanx 4 the advice
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
oh yeh, eh sez theres no side effects to it and he reckons its not addistive, and that i wont even know im takin it, but ive read that there are loadsa side effects, its highly addictive, and can actually make things worse, which i got v v worried about. any advice on that anyone?
• Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Hi Charley

We have some information about Prozac here:
http://www.thesite.org/drugs/the_drugs/prozac.html

Some people do get side effects, but they are usually mild and only last for the first couple of weeks or so. Also, it is definitely not an addictive substance, in spite of the rumours.

Hope you start to feel better soon.

No it aint addictive but it is worrying coz u think that as soon as u come off u will go right down hill again which makes u wanna stay on it, but thats not the case.

There's not just prozac though - St Johns Wort has basically the same effect (no personal experience, but I'm considering)
and you'd have the worry of addiction and side fx off your mind.
Saying that though, prozac or anything else they're often just a crutch to get you through the worst.
My doc was a complete waste of time.. I was bullied all the way through school, my grandfather perved on me when I was really little, basically I was a wreck by the time I was 12, I spoke to my doc at about 16, and he said in no uncertain terms to leave it to him to decide if I was depressed or not (all he wants to do is listen to my chest hehe, if I go in with a sprained ankle he pronounces it's my asthma, and he's just gonna listen to my chest)
I'm 24 now, and go from high to low, I've been high for the last couple of months, then the plummet the other day when the guy of my dreams shattered them.

At the end of the day, what matters are your friends and family. The more support you can get, the better. that's why I came on these discussion boards, and I'm sure you find it helps you too, to know that people care..

a warning about st john's wort... apparently there's some kind of proven link with lupus, my mum was talking to an old friend the other day and shes got it, because of the st john's wort, apparently theres a warning on the pack but its really tiny and you dont see it.

anyway just thought i should say that while i remembered
