Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru

Hi,

When I've got heavy thoughts on my mind,
I usualy turn the radio on or play a cd to chear me up a bit.

I was wondering... What music do you listen to when you're down?

lots of love

Heres a little something I'll share with you lot.

The first girl I ever asked out was the greatest love I ever had at the time. She was the most important thing to me and I wanted to be with her more than anything.

I asked her out by phone from a mates house, she said no, I thought about it and phoned her back to give her a second chance in case she thought it was a joke. She got really annoyed at me.

I spent the rest of the day round my mates house listening to his extensive collection of MP3's (1 track lol) entitled "wasn't man enough for me" by toni braxton. It was on repeat and I was in a sort of shock trance cos of the rejection for an hour as the track repeated again and again.

Im over the girl now and am much better at handling rejection and moving on but whenever I hear that song it makes me feel really depressed and brings all the memories back.

It was only the other day I had a depressed turn, a mate from my old school who I just got back in touch with told me a boy I used to know was trying to pull this girl for the second time (failed first time). Not that I care, but it brings it back cos I was there the first time he asked her out, it was one of the most worrying times of my life.

I guess I'll be thinking of her in an old peoples home one day.

anyway, Korn is always what I listen to but if Im down about a certain something i try not to listen to music cos after im back up again that track will then always remind me of what i was upset about.

kinda silly I guess but I just thought I would share it with you.

If I'm angry or depressed or hateful or pissed or some other negative emotion, I'll put on Showbiz by Muse - put it on extremely loud and on repeat. The end bit is amazing for me.

If I'm happy, it'll be some punk - Offspring, Greenday or Blink. I know lyrically they're not happy people, but the music just cheers me up. Tres wierd.

I guess I'd go for Less Than Jake's "All my best friends are metalheads", it's really uplifting.

If I'm depressed I'll listen to one of Greenday's acoustic tracks (Like "good riddance" or "Macy day parade") because they're really mellow tracks.

I don't listen to the radio often because most modern music is crap and makes me feel worse. There are exceptions of course, it's mainly mainstream pop which rubs salt into the wound.

I once dreamt I was an angel
And I sat at God's right hand
Where I filled my heart with music,
The elixir of the land.
And I sang a song
Loud and clear,
Yet heard by only me.
"I was a burden to myself,
But now, I'm flying free."

music is my life. i love all types of music and i have so many different tastes that there is something for every mood!

if i'm angry i'll put on silverchair and throw myself about in my room and that usually makes me feel better, but if i'm upset about a guy i will do wot spirit sed and put on a soppy tune and end up bein more depressed than i started off.

it's the BEST! it's kinda rock/alternative. they did emotion sickness, anthem for the year 2000 and Ana's song.

If the sky that we look upon
should tumble and fall
or the mountains should crumble in the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry,
No, I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand
Stand by me

depends on if i'm trying to get out of being down or if i want to stay down.

if i want keep the down mood i like sarah mclachlan, fiona apple, the smiths or morrisey and mazzy star. tori amos will work in a pinch too.

if i want to rock myself out of it.. everclear (even if their lyrics are depressing ), pearl jam, u2, blink182 shaggy, anything upbeat that i can scream to at the top of my lungs.

depends. if im really angry then it tends to be slipknot, marilyn manson or somethin similar. also "i hate u so much right now" by kelis, which is normally if a guy has messed me around. if i feel really down then it tends to be nirvana's mtv unplugged coz its really sad and it makes me cry at the end. if im feelin pretty happy then its somethin like blink 182, nirvana's nevermind album, the offspring, the foo fighters colour and shape cd, or anythin kinda happy and rock. if somethins or someones pissin me off then i play anythin by eminem. and if i feel in one of my weird, kinda numb / dead moods, then itll b almost anythin as long as i like the lyrics. so there u go...

Music is not there to make you, or keep you, depressed. It's a celebration of life and under no circumstances should you ever start to associate songs with people(It only makes it harder to listen to them when they're not there anymore)

Amongst my favourite things to listen to are Radiohead - OK Computer, Mansun - Six, Bjork, Hip Hop, Drum 'n' Bass.

You should really try and listen to stuff you never listened to around them, or go and treat yourself to something new. Then you'll be to busy listening to your new stuff that you'll forget about whatever it was in the first place.

Music is just an expression of emotion, whether that be good, bad, depression, enjoyment...

If you associate music with a particular person or emotion then great...

That often seems to happen with relationships, a couple have a song together and upon splitting up, each person can't hear that song repeat as it reminds them of the relationship

I can't listen to most of my music now WITHOUT it making me feel bad..
All my favourites remind me of my ex, and although I don't want him anymore (after what he did) I still feel really crappy about the whole thing.
What I am listening to, are some cd's a friend lent me, I've never heard them before so they have no associations.
