    It changes automatically until you get to 1000 posts, then you can ask for a custom one.

    If you have a custom one it doesn't change.

    If yours is a default one than at 1000 you are an uber poster, at 5000 you are a boards champion, and at 10,000 you are a Gimp (it's apparently an acronym for something, but was really just created by Dom to insult Turtle).

    You can ask for a custom one whenever.
