The irony in this quote is... ironic. Is it panad or paned? And dioch y fawr? Is that thank you?

"Paned" is the correct expression, this is a way of saying "would you like a cup of tea?". And "diolch yn fawr" means "thank you very much".

I knew about paned, my flatmate is Welsh. In fact, as I write this he's ont he motorway down to Cardiff. How do you pronounce diolch yn fawr?

With Welsh words, you pronounce them exactly the same way as they are spelt. There are no exceptions like in English. However, on a cheery note, "banana" is the same in both languages.

no you don't, because a <ll> spelling is done with a <ch> sound at the beginning.

Correct. Some of the letters in the alphabet sound very similar to one another during speech. A lot depends on local dialects. For example, the Welsh spoken in South Wales is very different to that in the Lleyn Peninsula.

As a representative of the Scottish people on here, I must admit I am disappointed by the rampant rascism and stereotyping that goes on here directed at Scotland. If this is the way it is on the internet, it's no suprise that interregional rivalries and bitterness are so prevalent in today's society... Ya fucking English and Welsh bastards...

There is one word, however, that I still cannot for the life of me pronounce: the longest place name in Wales. It's in Anglesey.
    "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch"
Come on, pronounce that! I can't, and I'm fluent in the language.
