Yes, that is overly simplified, but I'm not really in the position to write a dissertation on capitalism at the moment.
And yes, I do have a notion of business thanks, I used to run one.

If we do though, vive la capital.

Now they are unreachable and using them is totally unrealistic.

What about the future? They would be chock full of metals.

I was reading about how 1 comet has enough platinum in it to make platinum next to worthless as a commodity. That is just a single example. Imagine mining the asteroid belt (inbetween mars and jupiter or saturn and jupiter? i forget) or the moon.

Completely unfeasible now. But in 300 years time?
    100 years time?
    50 years time?

I agree that we need to explore space. But not for private profit.

the cost would make all those metals extremely expensive.

Well seeing as he can't run a train service properly, I dunno if I trust him to get people into space.

virgin are better than most, and it is more to do with the overall condition of the network than branson's personal skills. It's not really a question of whether he's capable, it's whether he should.

I have no problem with Virgin sending people into space for money (I'd love to do it myself). I do however have reservations about the environmental damage it might cause, just so some rich fuck can float about for a bit. I'd also be against the private exploitation of resources in space, the same way I'm against it on earth.

Trains are in a bad state because of decades of under investment by the government. But this isn't a train thread.

It has to start off with some "rich fuck" floating about in space for a few minutes. But Branson reckons if enough people sign up (hes already had thousands of applicants) he can take the price down substantially (30k i think iread i could be mistaken). As with anything it will start of expensive and the prices will fall.
