Organ donating and racism

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Can you believe someone donated there organs to ahospital but said they could only be used by a white person??!?! What is with that? How can anyone be so racist that there final wish is that they don't help save the life of any person, only a white person. This world is completely screwed if people can make decisions like that...

Nah I think hospitals go along with what the next of Kin wants done if they havnt got a donor card.

And as ur dead the only person who's really cares bout what happens to the body(along with family).

I'd find it pretty hard to get Elisa cut up if she died:P... might get her mummified.lol

Well I've got a donor card, and if I died (hopefully not any time soon!) I'd definitely want parts of me to save other peoples lives. This subject is quite close to me because when my cousin died last year, she died from leakemia (sp?) and her family said yes to having some of her organs donated but some people in my family were really against the idea and thought my aunty and uncle were really horrible for doing it. But at the end of the day, my cousins organs saved three or four peoples lives.

i agree with you about the "opt out" scheme J9. when i was applying for my provisional driving license, i think i ticked the boxes for donating certain organs, i would have ticked more (apart from cornea which freaks me out somewhat), but my parents, especially my mum, didnt really want me to. i guess they just dont like the idea of their "baby" dying and having to think of these things. although surely i was helping them out, so they dont have to make the decision themselves if the time did come? which i think would be a lot mroe traumatic than me merely ticking a box. my dad was just joking about it and makin gme feel stupid for even considering it. maybe he just does that as a defence mechanism.. i dunno. but i definitely think its a good idea unless you're religiously against it or something and the opt out scheme woud be a good idea.

A very good thing to do with it. Those med students need something to learn on.

Has anyone seen the plasticised bodies - like a science text book but in 3D and made out of real bodies.

That's what I want doing with my corpse. Failing that, toss it in a skip as you stagger home from my wake.

When i die I want to donate my organs to people, I think that if someone else can live because of my death, then it would be a great thing to do.
I'd rather donate my organs than have a load of students cut it up though.
Thats just my personal preference though.

As for the guy saying he would donate his organs as long as they went to a white guy, well, Im not racist one bit and would never say anything like that but at the end of the day it was his body and isnt it up to him what happens to it.

    Sorry, I meant no offence.
I don't see a corpse as being the deceased, I forget that others attach importance to the body.
