Roaccutane

Well basically I am just wondering if anyone here has managed to get this prescribed for moderate acne as opposed to severe and I am going to be trying for it on friday.
Basically I have been given so much stuff from the doctors in the past in the form of antiobiotics and topicals which have done nothing too help and in cases have made me breakout worse and get very red. Thats on top of the 'miracle' face washes in the shop all the time that not once live up to the hype. I can get clear one week but the spots come back over and over consistently and it really gets me down. Its easy to say "Its not as bad as some peoples" or "You'll grow out of it" but at the end of the day no-one knows how long that can take for people. I mean its sad how much of the day I am thinking about it and avoiding certain situations because of it but its so much easier to not let it bother you in theory than practice.
Anyhow I know all about roaccutane, the side affects, initial breakout, normal doses etc- I figured that if they dont allow me the full dose I can at least go on a smaller one because it is the one drug that is guaranteed too work. Although it may take two or three courses for a few people it WILL work and most people never have spots too worry about again. I just feel that in my mind it is the last option but I dont want too be fobbed of by the doctor with some other treatment which wont do anything more than Ive tried before.
I also have it on my back and Im meant too be going away in the summer and I really really want too be sorted by then so Im going too be begging on friday and hopefully Ill be allowed on it.

Anyone with any feedback or who has experience of being on it with anthing too say would be great

I just finished my 12 month course a few weeks ago. My face and neck are perfect. These day's I'm just a bit worried about acne-like spots on my arms, cept I don't think they're acne, tbh. So we will see.

Thats great for you that you cleared up. Hopefully one day that'll be me. Does the accutance clear up the acne on back, shoulders and whatever?

Also Ive been hearing it takes AGES to actually get on it from your doctors appointment to being referred (Ive never been to a derm before) and then to go through everything before getting on it. I mean I just want to get on it ASAP to finally be able to go out without thinking about the way I look constantly.

You have to get it from the hospital which may or may nor take a long time depending on how many other patients there are. I know you just want to hurry it up but there's nothing you can do. It's only supposed to be for severe cases so your doctor may be reluctant to put you on it if it is not severe because it is a very strong medicine.

Good luck, let us now how you get on

The whole process took about three months:
First to the docs, on antibiotics and face wash and shit, which were slightly effective, then after a few visits to him, I was referred to a dermotologist. At the end of the first meeting with him, he simply handed me a couple of boxes of roaccutane and gave me a whole heap of verbal instructions, which I promply ignored.

Instructions like - Don't drink and Don't go in the sun??? They never mentioned Don't take illegal drugs but I had a weird reaction when I did!

I spent two weeks in the sun in Nice without getting burnt. I had a couple of nights fucked out of my head >> a couple of times on alcohol and it didn't kill me, that's for sure, and the rest was on weed or whatever the shit is they put in shisha's. Was hella fun.

The only bad reaction I get is mixing weed and alcohol quickly. That'll make me puke. =P

Well I went to the doctors today to try and persuade them to let me go on roaccutane:

It was a new female doctor and she was really nice, I asked loads of questions on natural cures, best facial cleansers and everything I could think of and she answered everything and was more than happy to hear about the different "cures" I had heard people find.
Anyway I asked about the roaccutane and she said that she can see I have tried a lot of stuff but she wants me to try one more thing and then she will refer me. She said it would work out better anyway as there is recently a new dermatologist in my town so by the time I have finished this treatment (which I will mention in a minute), the waiting lists will be right down and I could be referred fairly quickly.
Anyway the final thing she has put me on is tetracycline which I have heard of but thats about it. I have got to take two 250mg tablets a day and then one once a day when they are used up. Then I am to go back after easter which is just over a month to assess and then she said she will refer me to the dermatologist for roaccutance if there is no improvement and that is the route aI want too go. She was also pleased that I had done so much research into roaccutane and agreed that if theis fails then that is the way too go. So although I didnt get what I went for today I am fairly pleased at how things turned out.

Anyone herer have any experience on oxytetracycline?

    Thanks

It's just a basic bog standard anti biotic that everyone gets prescribed- I found it made no difference whatsoever..it may work for you though.

The name doesn't ring a bell, but it was probably what I was on for a couple of months. Did more or less stuff all.

Ive been hearing similar ineffectivness stories but I have to go through it to at least let the derm know I have tried everything to no avail and hopefully Ill be allowed on accutane.

    One more question )
You know those red marks you get from past breakouts? Does accutane clear them all up when you finish the treatment?
But for now any good tips too get rid of them as I have more of them than spots but they look quite bad in the daylight

If you're talking about the blotches, yeah, it does a fairly good job. I had a pretty bad face 12 months ago, and it's more or less fine now - i still have dark patches on my face where the worst breakouts used to be, but they're nothing significant.

You can get Retin-A cream to clear up scarring.
