Shaving (facial!!!)

Just wondering if anyone has any tips for getting a really close shave? I'm using a lynx razor at the moment and its pretty good but I still have a fair amount of stubble by the evening and even straight after my face isnt totally clear. It's not a big problem and my gf appreciates the stubble in some circumstances but I was curious if anyone has found any products that are particularly good.

I find Mach 3 is pretty good.
I think most people find they are fairly stubbly at the end of the day - the 5 o'clock shadow and all that. If it's a special night, I shave in the evening as well.

shave backwards (razor end up instead of down). hurts a little, cuz it pulls the hairs, but gets real close

I get an extremely close shave thus:
1) Shower first. It takes a couple of minutes to fully saturate your facial hair so you might as well get clean while your at it.
2) Liberally douse face with warm water and apply shaving gel to trap water close to skin and keep hair soft.
3) Dip razor in hot water to warm blades.
4) Shave. I use a Phillishave Cool Skin, and yes, you can dip the cutting elements in hot water!
5) Check skin with hands to make sure you haven't missed anything.
6) Rinse with warm water to remove remaining shaving foam.
7) Rinse with very cold water to close facial pores.
8) Dab (don't rub) your face dry. Rubbing will irritate your skin.

Hope this helps,

Tom

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but if i want a really close shave i put down the trusty mach3 and risk life and limb with a cut-throat razor

Only do that if ya really have to, as it fucks up the hairs somehow and can make them ingrown. Go with the grain....

I've got to agree with Tom. I do all of that, and I get a really close shave. Wilkinson sword performance FX (Diamond tip) is a really good razor as well. Also, go against the grain, that's the only way you can get a REALLY close shave. It irritates a little bit, but not much. The re-growth can also be really fast as well, but I normally shave, leave it for a few days (if I shave anywhere between 1-3 days after my last shave, it hurts like hell), get a good bit of stubble, then whip it off. I've not had any problems with ingrowing hair and stuff, but I've heard you can. Cut throat razors though? A little bit desperate?

I too shave against the grain - I Know you're not supposed to but otherwise it feels like I haven't shaved at all.

Mach 3 is definitely the best razor. Just make sure you change it every week or so. I've also found that shaving oil gives you a much better shave than gel or foam, and you can see what you're doing! King of Shaves make the best oil - I think it's about a fiver but it lasts ages.

I hope that helps

NEVER EVER rinse a razor under hot water, it makes the blades go blunt and then this will lead to you cutting your ski and cause sever irritation.

I dont have to worry about that though as i normally use an electric shaver as its so much quicker, but i use a mach 3 if im going out on a special night out.
