Help me again please.

Hello..well some of you know about me leaving uni and everything. I am trying to sort it all out this week, but I have a nasty feeling that the evil uni is going to make me pay rent on my room for the last term even though I have left. That's well over £500, so you can understand that I want to get out of it...

On the withdrawal form you have to state our reasons for leaving, I don't know whether to tick PERSONAL or HEALTH... depression comes into health doesn't it...do you think that would give me a better case to get off paying my rent?

Someone give me some advice please.. I hope I am doing the right thing. The few nights I spent at uni recently I felt really down, I was scared what I might do to myself.

    Hey k-t,

Sorry to hear that you're down. It's definately a huge burden on you, having to leave uni and start again somewhere new. For the university to try to stick with the rent on your room, though, is just horrible. Just think, though, you'll never have to see your awful flatmates again.

My advice to you would be to put down Health rather than personal. First of all, depression is a health problem, and although I guess you could say that it is a personal problem as well, it wouldn't be as easy for the university to blame you for leaving. Secondly, they might not even check with yyour doctor to see if you were being treated when they process your form. I know that at my school this kind of thing is done by students who don't give a damn about checking up on this stuff. The university would have a hell of a time proving that you left for personal, not health related reasons because of doctor-patient confidentiality too. I think that they would just take your word because it would be a lot of trouble to get the money for a room that they have a good chance of renting out anyway.

If you're really down, you shouldn't be alone. Try posting on the boards so you have someone to talk to, or call a friend, or maybe go out to do something. This is one of the only times that I would suggest doing with the purpose of putting your problems off. The people here are always here for someone who's down or depressed, don't feel like you're alone.

Hope that helped, and good luck.

    Hey, it's no problem.

Thanks for the compliment, but it's much easier for me to sit here and give you advice than for me to put myself in your shoes....that's for damn sure.

Everyone gets down for one reason or another. It's good to know that someone else can relate or understand what you're going through.

Do you know where you're going to transfer to? Or are you going to go home and then figure out when you get there?

Think about it this way, you get to start over again, meet interesting new people, have new experiences, have a change of scenery...basically you get to be a first year uni student again!

Yeah, put health not personal...although can you tick both? I doubt that you would have to pay rent for a room that you are not using, but would the student loan cover the cost of the rent anyway?

Good luck, depression sucks. Hope you get better soon <IMG SRC="smile.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">
