hi, until recently i have been able to play videos from my hard drive on my laptop running on xp, on media player. last week however, whenever i tried to watch a video(mpeg) media player would say it does not play this file format, even though it is a standard format. i also have divx player which too seems to have this problem, even though it didn't use to. i believe i cant still watch streaming video although i am not 100% on this. please help if possible.

re-install media player and do the usual spyware and malware scans, along with checking for virus

thanks, will i need to download the media player as my computer did not come with seperate disks, only a recovery/reinstall disk for the whole of xp. also, how does this explain the same problem with divx?

it could be a setting of where windows uses the divx codec within windows media player

and all computers do not come with seperate windows media player installs
