What would you consider young, middle-aged and old?

I consider young: from birth - 29
Middle Aged - 30-49
Old: 50+

    30 middle aged?

I hate to categorise, but approximately I'd say:

    Birth - 39: Young
    40 - 59: Middle aged
    60 - Death: Old

Although there are grey areas I reckon, since you get some middle aged 15 year olds ;)

hmmm....maybe I was wrong. It's difficult to judge. But people keep judging me recently about my preference with men, saying that they're too old for me :o

I actually have 5 categories, and I agree a bit with both of you.

    Until 30: Young
    30-45: Not-so-young
    45-60: Middle-aged
    60-80: Old
    80 and more: Too old

How do you sort this out? When you say, ohh a middle aged guy in his 50's, most people assume you will live to 100?

    oh come on now.

on a good day i can still get into the cinema for a child's price, so please don't go telling me in 6 and a half years i'll be middle aged.

    edit: or in limbo :/

It's all very subjective. I remember when I used to think 12 was ooh, really grown up! And anyone over 30 had one foot in the grave. Well now I'm 33 and my life has only just begun! Even 50 doesn't seem THAT old. Daresay 50 seems like a spring chicken if you're, say, 80.

It depends on your age. My thoughts have changed the older i got. I don't think i'm old at 25 & i don't think i will be at 30 either.

    It's you!

I reckon 35-65 is middle aged. Everything else is obvious if you think there are only three categories.

    54 isn't young! I think most 54-year-olds will agree.

To be honest, I didn't really think about the question before I answered.

    *thinks*

    I'd say:
    birth - 20: very young
    21 - 40: young
    41 - 60: middle aged
    61 - 80: getting on
    81+: definately old :p

when i think about it, i think my response would have been different if i hadn't been an aged care nurse for a while. I remember when i thought 30 was ancient...

Me too. It's quite scary now. I'm guessing 30 will seem really young when I hit the age myself :p

Fugue I;m kinda the same way of thought as you! I reckon its:-

    birth to 25:- young
25-45:- adult (tho it may be 30 these days!)
    45-60:- middle aged
    60+:- old

tho these days I think the time we get to being real adults isn't as young as befre-I mean I know so many 30 yr olds who have no repsonsibilties and still go out getting drunk like the teens and twentysomethings do! still my bro is the odd one out-he is an old fart and only 16!
