Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Iv just installed XP reluctently on my PC because i dont like the OS at all. And everynow and then it signs me out of msn for no reason at all.

Are there any known issues about this?

I have msn 6.2 behind zonealarm pro, you rekon this may affect it?

Thanks

does it do it loads, or now and again? i still get logged off some times for no reason. i have zone alarm but i dont think thats the cause. msn usually has these small bugs, you could try downloading it again, that may help but i cant help you any further. sorry

the only way those virus' and trojans would of been installed is via your actions.

virus' and trojans wouldnt of installed by themselves without you not doing anything, so i dont see how you can blame the os, when it was your actions that would of caused the virus' and trojans to install.

Explain why i never had a virus with 98se then? I never treated it different at all.

have you disabled the windows messenger option in windows..

this will auto-sign you out if you use msn 6.2

To uninstall Windows Messenger 4.x on your system do not delete the programs files directly instead go

Start > Run, now enter “RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove” into your run box without the speech marks. Although this will remove the second tray icon with will disable some features in MSN Messenger such as remote assistance (period), whiteboard, application sharing plus apps that call on Messenger (like Outlook Express, Outlook 2002) will freeze or parts that rely on Windows Messenger will no longer function.

Or you can visit : Diasble Messenger Program

Recipie for a trouble free XP installation:

    Ingredients:
    one XP Pro disc
one copy of the XP SP2 net install .exe
    nero
    nLite
    a blank CD-R

    1: Download nLite

2: Intergrate XP SP2 with your XP Pro disc

    3: Burn CD to disc

    4: Install off disc

there is a marginal chance that your first XP install was messed up due to the fact you might've been using the first original IE browser that came with XP, also the original XP is riddled with loopholes, if you've watched the news in the past 2 years you might vaugly remember the blaster worm, and sasser, that only affect WindowsNT based systems. If you just installed XP of the disc and expected it to work flawlessly without updating it at all, then you're wrong, and you probably got all these viruses and such browsing your dodgy one legged pirate porn sites which bombard you with popups and requests to install porn dialer software, and in your one handed haste to close the popup you must've accidentally clicked "Yes" :-)

    oh,

    5. use Firefox!

If you seriously believe that an operating system which started it's design process more than 12 years ago is better than a properly maintained 2k pro/XP installation, then you sir, are a twonk.

drgoo and noog i see where your coming from, internet explorer is a pile of wank and yes i did connect xp to the internet before updating (no porn sites though lol).

If longhorn is meant to be based on brand new files and brand new technology then hopes are high that this may acctually work (yeh right).

Ah i guess we cant all have a perfect operating system now can we.

Doubtful, but 2000/xp are better (more stable, secure) platforms than 98 is.
