You know I sometimes think that the world would be better if *everyone* went on holiday in August, not just the politicians. The impeachment of Blair, the popularist mutterings of the Tories, not to mention the earnest way in which we on this board latch onto them and debate them .... I find it quite funny.
Let's just dispatch all the journalists to the South of France until the politicians come back and actually start discussing real policy. Either that or ban the politicians from going on holiday at all!
Actually, that's not such a bad idea - why don't MPs and civil servants stagger their holidays? Then the Parliamentary year could be extended, more business done (and more scrutiny take place!) and we wouldn't have this annual hiatus when John Prescott fishing someone out of a river becomes serious news!
