Harassment...

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
How serious do the police take harassment, ie. malicious and abusive texts and phone calls. Also, what would they actually do about it? It just feels like it's not serious enough to even go to the police about and I don't think they'd take it seriously either. What can you do apart from take the person who's doing it and rearrange their face....

It's illegal to make malicious phone calls so yes tell the police!!

If it's causing you harm then you should report it.

Best to tell the police, they put the complaint on file, will probably have a word with him but I doubt they'll even get an official caution. If it continues they may and you could always try and get a restraining order in court.

It's interesting you assumed it was a male doing it. It's actually a female. I just feel silly going to the police about it...

They can do something yes, but they tend to take it more seriously if she/he is following you etc. Ive got a harrasment thing out on an ex, they did it cuz he rang me permanently, followed me and generally caused me shit.

The thing is I've replied to a few texts, I know I should've ignored everything but she got to me and I couldn't keep quiet.

Shouldnt make a difference, it didnt with me, just say you were wound up, know you shouldnt have done it, but you were upset. Make sure you dont reply to anymore though. Is there any reasoning behind it?

Well, not really. She's my boyfriend's ex, who had twins to him, my boyfriend's just been remanded in prison and she's trying her best to wind me up. :(

Can't you just get a new sim card, to save the hassle. I mean if you go to the police and they get a warning to leave you alone; it will make them think they've achieved their goal in getting to ya.

Don't give her that pleasure. Doesn't cost much to get a new sim card, does it?

    Xxx

No, I was thinking about the new sim card thing, she's causing too much trouble for me, I think I'll just do that. My boyfriend doesn't need more grief than he's already got by her telling stories about what texts I've sent back. Or making stuff up. I'll just make sure she can't contact me again.

I'm not 16 actually, so before you choose to try and insult someone you don't know, try to get your facts right. I'm 5 months off 18. Although I don't believe it makes one bit of difference to this post. I don't understand why people feel the need to post a reply if they've got nothing constructive to say.

Obviously she wasn't complimenting the girl and put her problems on a spotlight with a negative attitude - when all the girl is asking is for advice...

Too much to ask for these days.

How did I put her problems on a spotlight?

My advice - change your friends, change your number. Better?

    It's a start - though a bit late.

    How magnanimous of you.

Really though, the sarcasm was pretty obvious.

I usually am - Thanks for noticing.
You either spit it out - or don't say anything at all. How can ya pick up sarcasm over a computer?!
