Unless you believe in reincarnation, you were not dead before you were born (actually, before you were concieved). You simply didn't exist. The definition of death includes having lived.

Yeah, I agree with this. I don't believe in reincarnation, so therefore I believe that before we were concieved, we just didn't exist....

Death is perspective. To be aware of death you must have been alive at one point.

    What defines life?

    I think therefore I am.

You lot, of course, are merely figments of my imagination.

Yeah, we are... We didn't want to let you know because you'd be heartbroken. You've actually been in an institution for years (since you started hallucinating), and all people and places you see are only in your mind... I'm so sorry. :(

It depends on how you see it. If I'm only in your mind, I'm living in a world as real as me. It's you who isn't. ;):p

Everything only exists in my mind, becaue it is only me that exists.

Everything else only exists in my mind.

Therefore I am real, and you are not. None of you.

If there is an afterlife then you do die before you live and hence before you are born you are indeed dead based on this idea of there being an afterlife even if you dont beleve in reincarnation.

As for Life there is no "meaning" for it, it simply is simply a state in whcih we exist, when we are dead we still exist just not alive and before we were concieved we still existed just not in the same form or intelligence we take on now

    maybe.

the meaning of life is not meant to be known.
for if we knew it...surely, we would be God. that's if God actually exists.
people spend so much time pondering the trivialities of life and perhaps not enough about the greater, more important matters. like why & how we have come to exist. or if we even do exist. on the other hand, if we are never meant to find out & the likelihood is that we never really will & our existence will always be based on certain theories, then there really is not much point in contemplating these questions.

it's something of interest because most expect answers to every question. & when there is no straight answer, it becomes frustrating. why does religion exist? it provides people with a sense of security. it gives them answers to questions we otherwise would not have answers to. the opium of the people and all that.
personally, i like to keep an open mind about these things & therefore am not religious. not saying religion is a Bad Thing, it definitely is not, I just believe it can be narrow-minded in a world where these religions provide certain answers to things that otherwise could have so so so many other possibilities.

like i said, perhaps if we knew the meaning of life, we simply would not be human.

    but anyway. whats for dinner?

Personally I think that human assumption that there is a meaning behind our life is arrogance - we're animals, more developed or advanced but still animals - we just live. There is no meaning.

Perhaps the question is important because it leads us to believe that our lives mean something and makes us strive to achieve.

As far as I can see the only answer is to make as much of it as possible.
