Ask the doctor/pharmacist when you get your pill tomorrow! They're more likely to know than we are.

    Hi Debs

It really depends on the brand of the pill. Ring Brook Advisory for more advice, or speak to the person who prescribed it.

For most combined pills, if you take the first pill on the first day of your period, you will be protected immediately.

If you take the first pill on any other day (i.e. not the first day of your period) you have to use an additoanl protection such as condoms for the first few days because you will not be protected against pregnancy.

I think they say you can start the pill the first Sunday after yr period starts. That way you always get period-free weekends.
If you have lie-ins during the week instead, alter the day accordingly.
    Best of luck.

if you take the pill on the first day of your period then you will be protected immediately but if not then you have to take it for 7 days before you are protected properly

NOT TRUE!!! this means you are assuming that you can't get pregnant while having yoour period! this is not always the case! Wait 7 days just to be sure or use a condom!

hmmm i thought twice about that when my doctor said that to me.... and everywhere i looked on the net seemed to have the same advice, but its right that you shouldnt assume you cant get pregnant on your period. i dont see the harm in waiting 7 days really <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="smile.gif" border="0">
