Sophie Dahl perfume advert

The latest advert for YSL Opium perfume, featuring a naked Sophie Dahl, has been banned because it is considered offensive.

Do you think it is obscene, or is too much fuss being made about it?

    I think that only in Britain would that ad be deemed offensive. You guys are so prude!! Actually, you and the Yanks.

    It is a typical perfume ad - sexy, erotic etc...I'd be interested to c who were complaining about it? What sort of demographics it would bring up...dare i suggest the old and pititful ppl (no, j9, older than you even <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">)

    Anyway, way too much fuss being made about it.

    Viti kuin muuri.

    Oh god not again! All this argument does is bring up the age-old argument of censorship. What should be censored, why something should be censored yadda yadda yadda..... I will cling firm to the beliefs that everybody should have their own choice! no other way i c is feesable.

    Interesting point Scotty. Those posters are so big though, do you really have the choice of avoiding them?

    My view is the same as turtle, I think in england people are scared of sex (certain people anyway).

    I personally wouldnt have had the advert banned but there you go!

    Thats the english for you.

    One thing i think they could have tried though is only having it shown after the watershed.

    The ad was about 90º away from being offensive.

    I personally think she looked great. It was a good advert, it worked. At least it's givin YSL some media attention.

    Well I hate the advert...not because I'm prude, not because she's naked, just that I don't think she looks particularly nice in it! She's all white!

    Go Sophie, I say! She looks great. But still, I can see why it might be offensive from a parent's point of view...not exactly a Bob the Builder poster you're little boy's ogling, is it?

    I don't think that ad ever even got into Dubai! When you buy magazines here half the pages are ripped out and nude pictures are drawn on with black markers!

    I think that the ad shouldn't have been banned, no matter how BIG it is - everyone has the choice whether they want to look at it or not.

    Apparently there were 500 complaints about the advert.
    Which according to the news is a lot.
    What they fail to realise that those 500 people were probably over the age of 60 or were mormons. In a country of 60 million why are we listening to the opinions of such a small number of people?!?!?

    I made a small error there, it was 730 people who complained. Which if my maths is correct is approx 0.0015% of the population.
    Why is it that the minority always get their own way???

    the minority don't always get there own way, only sometimes complaints are used by higher people to get 'distasteful' public content removed. A friend of mine works in advertising and comes up with a lot of this kinda stuff, he seems pretty convinced that this normally wouldn't happen and that YSL probably (by some means or other) got te poster banned to boost sales.

    Sort of like a low-budget consipracy theory really <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif"&gt;

    Personally, i'd say that there is nothing inherently wrong with the ad, it all boils down to biology, 50% of the worlds population have the same body parts as her and everyone does what she looks like she's doing.

    Sex is something kids gotta learn about now that they're losing their virginity's at 18 months...well...maybe not QUITE that young, but lets face it, by the time we were 10 we knew more about sex than our parents do now

    I just hada thought tho on all of this:
    Although YSL are gettin a lot of media attention is it the right sort?
    I mean like everyone's goin on bout how she looks like a slut and it conveys that image. Immagine your a boyfriend to some girl, out buying her xmas prezzie, u grab this perfume but then remember the advert and the msg it conveyed to you. Do u really want to imply that your girlfriend is a slut????

    Just a thought.........

    I think the advert is at http://www.lovenet.co.uk/sex-news/00-10-14.htm but I couldn't check because everything in Dubai is blocked and snoopblocker.com is under construction <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/frown.gif"&gt;

    Well fear ye not my brave compadres, for now the day has come to all those who have missed public softcore nudity.

    After spending many many many...many hours on the *ahem* World Sex News website (purely for research purposes naturally <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/tongue.gif"&gt; ) my quest for forbidden fruit was rewarded.

    It is my great pleasure to provide for you, the populous of TheSite, the web link to sophie dahl's notorious ad.

    i had seen it in a magazine actually, and didnt think much of it, so it cant have offended me that much! i dont think its particularly offensive, looks like a normal kind of perfume ad to me. although isnt sophie dahl supposed to be a large women's icon or something? she doenst look too large to me.

    It's better to regret things you've done than things you haven't.
