i look at my old aunt ...kept alive by modern science but having no quality of life.
i was her favourite as a child. sometimes she remembers me more often not.
if people like my aunt were given a small oral dose of opium each day ...all pain and anquish gone. pleasant dreams sitting in the sunshine. cheaper to feed. easier to manage.
at eighty odd years old ...what would be the downside?

my aunt is just old and no longer has any consistency in her memory or behaviour. there are very good days when shes realy on the ball ...but i believe the comfort that a dose of oral raw opium would give her ...would be far kinder to her than the stuff the chemical companies churn out ...and here lies one of the main problems to do with the legalisation of certain natural substances that have been legaly and commonly used for thousands of years ...theres no fucking big fat proffits in it! a lot of discomfort and pain and confusion ...disguised as scientific advancement in longevity.
same with cannavbis ...who the fuck would fork out for expensive pain relief when they could grow it on the kitchen window sill ...don't you people see how your being used and conned?
Personally I am very pleased that they have managed to isolate one cannabis chemical and put it in a spray, I think its an excellent move forward.
However, I can see your point about gaining the full effect from the mix of chemicals in the plant itself.
And you are right about the difference between morphine and opium. And of course old people dont get morphine as part of their daily mix unless they are in pain, rightly so if you ask me, you dont want to turn them into addicts for the last years of their life.
I can see your point Rolly, it sounds the ideal answer, but can you see the headline;
"NHS making OAP junkies!"
with small doses of opium they would i believe have a far better relief for the pain of the old creaking bones and have some very pleasant feelings. seems that if a drugs side effects are pleasant ...it has to be outlawed. just doesn't make sense to me.
the drugs they fill most of the old people up with cause loss off appetite and lack of sleep.
opium would not do that in small doses. in fact it would do the very opposite.
as for making them junkies ...would it realy matter?
would it be any worse than the drugs they are pumping into them now?
my mum died of cancer many years ago ...she died a morphine addict. the morphine relieved her awful pain and enabled rest and sleep. she would awake refreshed and cheerful.
opiates believe it or not ...keep the skin and complexsion very young and fresh.
I had some, as it seemed they were quite excited about giving it to me, and I didn't want to seem rude, and generally just felt really dreamy and contented although I wasn't on half the dosage they were taking :eek: Took me a while to string sentences together though and I kept mumbling stuff and repeating myself until I realised they had no idea what I was saying and were just smiling along and cooking weird meat stuff on a stick which may have been dog..or something..I'll never know.
