Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Just wondering peoples' stance on this. Would you (girls) go out with a guy who is younger that you??

Seemed when i was at school, that was almost against the law... But now that i'm old an grey (20) it doesn't seem to matter so much anymore.

Opinions please

Hi! Well,I'm 16 and the youngest I've been wiv is 19, (last night) and the oldest was (ur gonna think YUCK), 38. I never would go out wiv someone younger but i dont know how i'll feel when i'm 20. We young girls seem to think that older guys are a lot more mature and will give us a lovin relationship which isnt true at all. I'm in a man hatin mood. Sorry for the long posts, peeps. Hope that helps.

I'm 16, my boyfriend is 15 (an eleven month difference). when we first started going out I had a lot of stick from my friends - along the lines of "cradle-snatcher" - but I ignored them. we're two weeks off celebrating our one year anniversary now

I wouldn't be bothered, as long as he wasn't still at school..actually I'm not sure even that would bother me, I think it would be fun! My b/f is 4 years older than me so I'm not really looking at the mo, but I have been out with younger blokes in the past.

i have been going out with my boyfriend who is two years older and i must admittt since i have been going out with him the idea of someone the same age as me or younger worries me im sorry guys but most boys i know are far 2 immature for me!

but it is a matter of preference and im talking about still being in college when ur older it is not that different as most boys have grown up a little!

My 1st girlfriend was 17 when I was 16. That relationship lasted 2.5 years, and it was a long distance as well (between UK and Hong Kong), can't get much longer than that. It was a good relationship, we see each other about 4 times a year (half term in november, then X'mas, Easter and Summer holiday), so the longest time we don't see each other is about 2.5 months.

I think as long as the age gap isn't too big, then it's alright. As people get old, that age gap can vary a bit...

Age is merely a number, methinks.

I've gone out with a couple of slightly younger blokes (not that much younger, mind, as I skipped a year so there's already a year gap-type thing).

Fact is, a lot of blokes in their mid 20s drive me insane with their immaturity, so it really does depend on the person...

its weird...when you're in school still its like "hey no way...years younger? NO NO" this is probably due to the huge gap that seems apparent because girls mature faster than boys but when you get out of school they seem to be at the same stage so it doesnt matter.

I personally would not go out with someone younger than me (now) because Im 17 and still in school and they all act like 7 yr olds but when Im 20? who knows...

but yeh, like snow white said it really depends on the person...

when i was younger it was definitely frowned upon to be seeing someone younger, but i think that was mainly cos there was a much stronger segregation between the different years at school. now (wise old 21. ahem) at uni you don't really notice so much if peeps are a couple of years older or younger, we are all just students together. its not such a major issue once you reach your 20s and mix with different age groups at work or wherever.

Well, i'm 22, and i went out with a guy who's 19. He, at first seemed very mature, but then showed his real colours and he was really very immature. but saying that, a very close friend of mine is only 18, and he has a very old head on his shoulders and is totally on my wavelength, so i suppose it's dependant on the person as to whether an age gap matters.

Nope, age is not issue!!!! My best mate is 16, and dates a 13 yr old, she loves him to bits, she got no stick for it, and its working well, however this boy does look and act very old for his age, probly older than us, and he was already 1 of our mates. go 4 it! L x x x

Okay. I have only ever been out with one girl that's younger than me.
some of the age differences between me and my previous girlfriends:
2 years, 3 years, 10 years, and, surprisingly, only an hour.
It can work, but then, as minipig said, I have an old head on my shoulders, and I'm on the wavelength.

The youngest I've been out with was a 16 yr old (when I was 17), but I doubt I'd ever go out with someone younger than me again. Generally, I aim for 18-22 age range.

i dated my b/f when i was coming 18 and he was only 16 and still at school and i was in college. im 18 now and my b.f just turned 17. techinquely speaking, he's 1 yr and 5 months older than me, he's even younger than my brother! ugh!
we do get stick though, usually me for being a cradle snatcher and his friends don't understand what i see in him, but we've been going out for 10 months now and the relationship is great. i always said i would never go with anyone younger, but when love comes along, i don't think the age thing really comes into account...besides, i've been with older guys and the last one was 21 and all he went on about was sex.
everyone's different and age is just a number u attach yourself to on the outside, but to really judge a person's maturity i reckon you have to go a lot deeper.

don't listen to what other people say. when u reach 35 and she's 36 it's not a big deal. it's only during puberty that hormones stop some people from actually doing some thinking.
