I'm in need of some decent, scary films. I'm not talking cheesy stuff like Halloween, Friday 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street etc. 'cause i've seen them all, and they're not scary. I'm wanting clever, maybe even psycological horror here, anybody know of anything?

The original Ring is a good one. Audition is good too (both Japanese). Audition isn't really much of a horror but it's pretty fucked up.

The movies I have seen that are the scariest for me are:

    The Shining

    The Evil Dead

    Amityville Horror

13 Ghosts (i think its called that) was pretty scary.

    Psychological ones...
-Vanishing (I think you'll like this one)
-I think its called "Dont Look Now"

I've HEARD this one is really freaky but I couldnt ever bring myself to watch it - "Henry-Portrait of a Serial Killer." :yuck:

'The Thing' and 'The Dentist' I hear are very disturbing horror classics. Watched the start of 'The Thing' and it did indeed live up to all it's hype, just unfortunate I missed the ending.

Oh, and 'Ted Bundy' is quite disturbing, particularly as it really did happen.

Invasion of The Boday Snatchers always made me brick it when I was a kid. I could never go to sleep after watching it.

There's a few remakes but the one with Donald Sutherland in it is best.

One of the best psychological mindfucks is The Wicker Man, but its from the early seventies so you have to accept the out of date images. On the plus side it has a young Britt Eckland and Christopher Lee (the classic man of horror films himself).

Some other good ones ive seen recently include:

    Dark Asylum
They (this one is really disturbing with a mega disturbing ending)
    The Attic Expeditions
    Paperhouse

And for some really good tongue in cheek horror with some fright value...

    Soul Keeper
    Longtime Dead

'Brain Dead' and 'Bad Taste' are both highly amusing.

hmmm... I don't know too many horror movies that really stick out in mind - People have already put down what I was going to say. Never seen The Shining but that looks good.

The Evil Dead films are hilarious. Especially Evil Dead 2.

And Bruce Campbell is one of my idols-he's absolutely fantastic.

28 days later scared me, but that may hve been because i had to stay at home alone that weekend. Good film though :chin:

Its more of a creeping sense of doom and powerlessness in the Wicker Man which makes it such a chilling and gut wrenching film.

Let us know what you think!

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of the most incredibly disturbing and horrific films I've ever seen.

Every bloody time I watch it I always assume I'm past being bothered by it... but no it's always horrible.

(obviously I ain't talking about the damn remake)

American Werewolf In London is a good one, on the same subject Dog Soldiers is worth seeing.

Do not watch Jeepers creepers though, worse film I've ever seen.

I love the Evil Dead films :D Tho they are a bit silly and do make you laugh in places they do have the odd jumpy moments. The first one is probably more scarier rather than the second which just takes the piss!

Oh and definitly see The Shining, awsome film :)

    One hour photo

regular "scary movies" dont scare me because they are unrealistic, lame and not scary. But this one freaked me out because its not your typical scary movie, its like stalking and scary real life stuff.

    Ditto.

    Stay off the moors :D

Someone's already said it but The Thing is a pure classic.

Texas Chainsaw is very good. The lack of hollywood style music makes it very eerie. But stay clear of the sequel and stay well clear of the 2003 remake.

I watched the first half of the Wes Craven classic The Last House on the Left (Before I had to go out on a family emergency  ) the other night and was very disturbing. Gonna watch it again maybe tonight or 2moz so I'll let you know how it is (unless someone else has seen it (Mr V??) and can give a verdict before hand). :D

The Last House On The Left is one of the worst film's I have ever seen. I just hated it. There was nothing to it at all. It never disturbed me in the slightest.
