    365 x 24 X 60 x 60 I'd assume

    Not enough.

Hmm, no, can't work that one out, I'm not into cryptic questions.

well i've now worked it out 2 differnt ways and got 2 differnt answers.

    60 x 60 x 24 = 86400 so thats one day.
    then 86400 x 365 = 3153000

    or

    60 x 60 x 24 = 86400
    86400 x 7 = 604800 so thats a week
    then 604800 x 52 = 31449600

    see, 2 differnt answers

When calculating as I did, your first answer is correct.

    Well, 365 divided with 52 isn't exactly 7, so maybe that's why.
    I don't know.

No it doesn't... if you divide 365 by 7, you get 52.142857. This is where the whole leap year thing comes into it... for three years we knock the .142857 off the year and have an extra day on the fourth year. This is why the second calculation is wrong....
Although, perhaps not... because the first one is taking into account the .142857, so we don't strictly have years of that length... Argh, confusing myself!

    There are 12 seconds in a year. January 2nd, February 2nd, March 2nd, April 2nd, May 2nd, June 2nd, July 2nd, August 2nd, September 2nd, October 2nd, November 2nd and December 2nd. ;)

    Definition of a year:

vernal equinox to vernal equinox (apparent)
    also astronomical year
    natural year
    equinoctial year
    solar year
    tropical year
    365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, 46 seconds

fixed star to same position (apparent)
    also sidereal year
    365 days, 6 hours, 9 minutes, 9 seconds

    Hewlett-Packard 28S calculator: 31556925.9747 seconds/year
    Google calculator: 31556926 seconds/year

Because of the difference in time between a sidereal and a solar year, nobody that is alive today was really born under the zodiac sign that they are given. For example, Aries isn’t behind the Sun between March 21st and April 21st.

Well, actually, a year is 365.25 days long

Well that's how long it takes the earth to do a full circuit of the sun.

    So I guess there are 365.25 x 24 x 60 x 60 = 31, 557, 600 seconds in a year.

'Tis also the reason we have a leap year every four years.

Its not as simple as that though is it, because we are quite often having leap seconds and such because we can not devise clocks which are accurate enough.

And even out orbits of the sun are not exactly the same year on year.

The only relatively accurate way of telling the time is with radioactive sources, the release atoms at a very set rate and therefore you can tell the time.

However, there are some small drawbacks with carrying radioactive sources around and counting the atoms as they come off.

So, we come back to the question of what is time? It is purely a human concept that has no real world meaning at all.

Like numbers really, they are meaningless as a concept of themselves, they only mean something when they are used.

    For example.

    I have three.

    I have three apples.

The first sentance is meaningless, three what?

Its only when numbers and time are actualy used that they have meaning.

So, we come to the conclusion that unless you are using all those seconds that they are meaningless and should not be counted.
