Are you refering to a comparison between it now and in that past; because if you are I think you'll find it has improved. I myself have many relations who are on NHS psychiatric care and it's good; they stay in the ward and they speak with the psychiatrist quite often. Better than what it used to be like if you ask me (though then again I can't really compare I just draw on my knowledge of what it used to be like in the 1960s etc hehe)

So what do you think they did with people back in the 50's?
We didn't have asylums and happy pills for nothing you know. there was no such thing as a cure back then, they stuck you in a hospital or doped you up that it didn't matter what you did.

I thought you were against taxes... so why do you use a service that relies on our taxes to run?

Also depends on the type of therapy you want.

Well frontal labotomies stopped in the 1950's and I think the ethical guidelines for the mental health services were introduced in 1985 (?). A lot of people were thought to be 'cured' and released, all you had to do is act normal and behave yourself. Depends on your illness.

ECT is still used today to treat depression. Basically it gives the brain a kick start.

There are some pretty decent therapies around these days, but some are hard to get hold of. Cognitive therapies and councilling would be the easiest. But at the end of the day, it's up to the individual to help themselves as well.

I'd appreciate it if you could keep to the subject title rather than making personal attacks. Thankyou :)

You said "why haven't psychiatric services improved" you didn't say over what time period. And you gave no evidence to say that they haven't improved either; just that they are shit. Shit or not they were shitter before.

Well you complain about taxes, then about the NHS. If we want the NHS to improve we'll have to put taxes up.

You haven't explained why the NHS health services are shit in your experience anyway. I have stories to share, but then I didn't start the thread.

OIIII you lot!!!! Some of you should know better.

It is pointless keeping this thread open, there are more insulting comments than sensible ones here.
