Legal advice

Okay the Yesterday (saturday the 28th Feb) I run away from home. I got to london liverpool st on a permit and TRIED to buy a child fare which I wasn't Suppose to get. They refused this and called over a police officer. I said I would pay the Adult fare to the station and leave. They refused to do this and I was arrested yes arrested for fare advasion (sp) They then found out that I was planning on running away after a lovely lenghy interview. They then informed my mother on what I was planning then escorted me home by to police officers.

Now what they did is that correct? I am 16 and I thought at 16 you can legaly leave home? they say it's because I need parental concent to run away? WTF?

Also I got AWAY with paying the train fare and a written warning. I also have a record on the "transport police database"

Advice please.

Well i guess if your under 18 and still live at home you are not a adult and will still need consent.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
you can leave at 16, yes, but you need consent for that. and also, you can leave but you have to have a place to stay.

 anybody could say they are willing to go with them and go along with it, but they never know if they will book it as soon as their eyes are turned.

    Nice job, dumbass.

Too much of a pussy to deal with the oh-so terrible troubles of being fed daily and having a warm bed to sleep in at night? Run away from them!

Or at least try. Though it seems you can't even manage to do that right.

I'm short so I could probably get away with the train fare. Anyway :p what advice do you want? You can't leave home without your parents OKing it. If you really need a way out then get in contact with social services and ask them if you're elligable for alternative accomodation (ie: with foster parents/childrens home). Bear in mind though that generally they only usually intervene in cases of abuse or neglect and in your case I'm not sure that's ellegible  though I don't know your circumstances completely.

    think about it.

you tried to buy a child fare. then you said you were running away from home.

they probably thought you were lying about your age.

16 year olds can leave home. but they don't normally run away.

We've all seen the kinda 'problems' he goes through by his posts on here.

I'm dreading the time when he grows up and faces a real problem. Judging by the way he handles these ones, he'll end up hanging himself.

I'm just baffled that neither the words 'seeker' or 'attention' have been used in this thread.

No I didn't tell them I was running away. They assumed it.

I wasn't going to london. Throught it. I had a place to stay and sorted out. It had been planned.

But I want to know the law regarding leaving/running away from home.

Well, it took me two clicks with google to find this -

    http://www.youthinformation.com/infopage.asp?snID=42

    which tells you

At 16 years of age: Leave school, buy a lottery ticket, consent to having sex, get married with parental consent, consent to or refuse dental or medical treatment, buy cigarettes, get a National Insurance Number, get a full time job.
At 17 years of age: Learn to drive and buy a car or motorcycle, be sent to prison.
At 18 years of age: Get married without parental consent, leave home without parental consent, purchase and drink alcohol in a licensed premises, vote in elections, place a bet, get a tattoo.

I plan on doing all except leave home, and maybe marry, in the week after my 18th. Yay. The anticipation.
